I think his ability to take and make 3s with some consistency is what will determine if he ever becomes a starter in the NBA.

Think he could be a starter if he can his FT% to .750 and show some ability to finish at the rim. If he shoots FTs like Ben Simmons, he won’t be playable. If he can make FTs and facilitate he can play with his defense and rebounding.

I think a capable outside shot is years away for dyson.

How can one be in the nba yet shoot 2/18 from anywhere at any time.

He ended summer league 2 for 20. Terrible, but also a very small sample size. I really think he needs to loosen up his form a bit. It's almost like his form involves some unnecessary tension in his upper body. The more I've watched his shot, the more I think he could use some help to clean up his form and loosen up his shoulders.

This may sound counterintuitive, but I also sometimes feel like he is just a bit too squared up to the basket. If he brings his right foot forward a few inches, it may help open up his right shoulder and clear up his vision.

The silver lining...for a player like Dyson? Worst case scenario: IF...it turns out he is always a lousy 3-pt shooter, he will STILL be very good in several other areas which will make him an overall solid player & valuable contributor. He will just NOT shoot very many 3s.

This is why I say Dyson has a relatively higher "floor"...especially when compared to someone like Trey.
DD: Higher floor...Trey: Higher ceiling. At the moment, I'm not sure which player will end up more valuable but I will definitely have a much better idea, by the end of this upcoming season.

BTW: you could replace DD in this discussion with Herb...& it would basically be the same thing when comparing Herb and Trey

Hopefully DD & Herb improve with their outside shooting & Trey adds additional positive aspects to his game...besides his obvious outstanding 3-pt shooting. They...could turn out to be an amazing trio.

I'm not sure if this is true because I don't think there's a guarantee that Dyson becomes better than even year 2 Trey Murphy, much less whatever the floor going forward for Trey is.

And that's not to knock Dyson, I really like Dyson. It's just that Trey was THAT good last season. 48/40/90 on I think 15ppg. Obviously that's not a statline Dyson is going for, but if we can compare it to how good Dyson will or may be, i don't think it's a stone cold lock that Dyson's floor/worst case scenario is better than that, and it's a logical guess that Trey will still get better as well.

as assistant TDGM im appalled at griff taking another player who cannot actually participate in offensive sets.
1. of course he can learn a 3 point shot. a couple days with me

2. i cant invest hope in Daniels. hes not even a guy you look for in a pickup game in NYC for money. would you choose someone who cant frigging shoot?

jfc.
a lottery pick who cant beat your 16 yr old neighbor in horse.

trey is going to be at least 6th man on a championship team some day.

of course its possible daniels learns to shoot but why hasnt it happened?

Trey he already shown he can shoot over .400 from 3pt. He does the most valuable thing you can do very well. To me Trey’s floor is clearly higher than Dyson.

I would much rather teach length to defend than teach length to shoot.

Ricky Rubio, Ben Simmons, and rjon rondo had very long and successful careers and were inconsistent shooters.

Dyson is 20, he can grow. He won't ever be an elite shooter but of he can be at least a threat if you leave him wide open then that's fine.

Agreed. His size and defensive potential are terrific.

But Trey Murphy’s floor is higher. It’s proven. Last year’s Trey Murphy has a guaranteed 10 year nba career ahead of him without any further improvement.

I think Dyson will play for a long time as well, but his floor isn’t an nba player. He has to get better at scoring either from the field or from the line.

treys ceiling is:
is asked to be on usa national team.
ingram was asked.
this new mens front office and coaches did not have tryouts. they invited guys.
thats a reality ceiling.
coach picks you.
to play vs luka and giannis and jokic and wembanyama.

its easier for daniels to represent aussie. he could make the team after two more years of nba.
but he will probably need to be better at shooting to be "starter on a finalist". theres a lot to work with but until they do it you dont know if hes able to learn the nuances of shooting no less learn a patented shot.
it seems his floor is wonderful defender with very good passing. mkeh
thats a B+ in my book.
keeper.

It’s gonna be so fun bumping your hot takes on DD in a few years. You compared him a few weeks ago to being Kira and Jax level busts…

This is so cute. Ben Simmons made multiple all star teams and an all nba team not being able to do either. And some people are comparing DD to Simmons defense and his floor is not an nba player lol?

What does that have to do with his making all nba teams? He can’t shoot worth a shite and still made all star and nba teams.
