Is it possible Zion hits a growth spurt?
Good god I hope this dude grows bigger than 6’6

Naz was a Guard as a kid that went through a huge quick teen growth spurt(similar story as Zion his youth circuit bro)..
It's why he has the outside shot, and thinks he can whirling dervish spin move a 7t body to greater degrees than reality actually allows for. Also why he doesn't like playing with his back down low or being banged around..
This according to his dad.

Turner is a below average rebounder for a center. He is a very good shooter and an elite shot blocker.
Zion is an outstanding rebounder and shot blocker, and in an era with increasingly smaller line-ups, I am not worried about a team where Zion is the best rebounder and Turner is the second best option.
Now if you are concerned about Ingram since he is so thin, I understand that completely.

Lonzo/Jrue are elite rebounders for guards too

Height is very overrated. Ben Wallace was under 6'8 and they say Dwight Howard isnt quite 6'10. On the flip side, Durant and Garnett are over 7 foot. Body type, base and power are huge advantages for a guy like Zion. But he needs help and a big body next to him..

The more I think about it, the more I want to see the Zionist Pels play without a traditional center and go with a 3 forward/2 guard line up where everyone is switchable and Ball and Jrue just run, run and run some more.
In this configuration there are several potential "small ball" forwards in the draft who can guard 5s, including Williamson, Hunter, PJ Washington out of Kentucky and Brandon Clarke or Rui Hachimura out of Gonzaga. Hunter, Washington and Hachimura are all strong 6'8" guys with 7'+ wingspans, but Clarke is the guy I really like. Super athletic rim protector with a high motor, quick off the floor, soft touch around the basket and high basketball IQ. He's low usage but can work off the ball and guard on the perimeter. He, Zion and Ingram would make for an unconventional front court, but they would give opposing teams fits. Getting any of these guys, other than Hunter, would involve trading down in the draft maybe with Atlanta as they are late lottery picks most likely.

Clarke is too small with a poor shot. I like his energy and effort but he is a bad fit for this team.

Someone please explain to me why more of you aren't interested in bringing Niko back.

He's really not a good defender, and he's really not this great of a shooter as everyone makes him out to be..
If he would come at around 10 million, I would take him back, but he will get more than that

Yeah Clarke would be perfect playing next to KAT in Minnesota. Fit doesn’t really work next to Zion.
One guy who could potentially fit if Pels trade down or maybe the guy falls to them in the second, is the kid Claxton from Georgia.

On a team where you have other stud defenders, you can have Niko out there, because it's possible to help and not leave other holes.
Niko runs well and fits well in Gentry's system. He runs well and is solid on the glass. He helps fix our spacing problems.
He liked his time here. He was, by all accounts, a true professional in everything that he did, making him a good example to our younger guys.
I was thinking about 12 million, and I think we could get him for that. But I'll quit pumping him. We'll just see what happens.

You need a banger that can get you 15 minutes a game against bigger centers. You don't want Zion out there guarding the Gasols of the league night in and night out.

quote:You seem to be hung up on one stat in deciding that Turner would be a bad fit. You ignore his shot blocking, his defense, his outside shooting and Zion's rebounding. I would gladly take Turner.
Turner is a highly skilled big, but the things you need your bigs to do he doesn’t do all that well. You can’t put him next to Zion and expect to compete on the glass. We would get dominated.
As much as I like Turner, the rebounding alone is a big enough issue for me to pass on him.

Do you really want to spend that much for a 5? I don't.

quote:$18 million a year on a 23 year old defensive star? That doesn't seem outrageous to me. If he were referred to as a stretch 4 who could block 2.7 shots a game, would you feel better about it?

Milwaukee lead the league in rebounds per game and rebound differential with Brook Lopez playing heavy center minutes. Turner averaged more RPG per 36 than Lopez did. Your rebounding doesn't have to all come from the 5. We have Lonzo and Zion that can subsidize that weakness.

Oh I'm very hung up on it, because there are luxuries and there are things you absolutely have to have. Having a C that can stretch the floor and pass the ball are a luxury, but not a requirement. But having a C that can rebound is vital. The game may have changed, but it's still the same in the way that if you don't rebound you won't win.
I agree with you on his defense and his shot blocking. BUT, you can find bigs in this league that can play good defense and block shots that wouldn't cost you the 4th pick and on top of paying $72M over the next 4 years. And how often will Turner be on the court to close games? 70/30? 60/40? Do you want to give up that asset and that cap flexibility for a guy that won't always be on the court during clutch time? Again, nothing against Turner because I like him, but our resources can be better spent.
