Oh a first time HC didn't get interviewed by that team the previous year? Never ever seen that before in the NBA... Even if the player's had no issues with SVG they definitely didn't work and play FOR him. We need a coach that the players will buy in to and work better as a team. Chemistry and attitude is the differences between winning and losing in the NBA. SVG did not have our players best interest with regards to those 2 factors.

Superstars don't necessarily bring in superstar coaches as much as they make them.

To me it’s becoming clear that David Griffiin is toxic. You have JJ & Stan both bad mouthing him to anyone that will listen. I hate to hear what is going on behind closed doors:

You have Zion putting it out that he doesn’t like Nola. Gayle Benson isn’t respected in league circles as an owner. So i think Willie green paints a pretty good picture on what the Pels have going for them. “Oh he better put together strong assistants!” Really, lol? frick that. That shouldn’t be the crutch when you are trying to win with a generational talent.

i don't disagree that Griff sucks, or that Benson isn't a respected owner, but i'll just add that before the start of the bubble the Suns were embarrassingly bad from top to bottom as an organization, and now they are about win a championship simply b/c they made one key acquisition and gave a retread a redo. You look at their draft history and it's just pathetic. They wasted i think 3 top 6 picks on complete busts.

Things can change real quick in an organization. Look at how the Saints are looked at after they got Payton and Brees. They were one of the worst run franchises in all of sports before that, yet the ownership didn't change.

No one knows if Willie is going to work or not, but i'd much rather take the chance on him than the stupid arse hire of SVG. SVG was never going to work, and neither would any other old arse retread.

This is just a really bad take, LE. "Toxic"? That's absurd. Because a couple of people are bad-mouthing him? Find me any public figure who doesn't have anyone bad-mouthing him.

Zion did not put out that he doesn't like Nola. I'd love to see a link for why you think Gayle isn't respected (from within the last two years, since she committed to transforming the franchise).

Did your dog die? You are normally a lot more level-headed than this.

Ok, so you just proved my point, there's names that weren't leaked, there's no way to know if he was a candidate last season or not.

Pretty sure every name was leaked when I can roll 8 off the top of my head lol

I just want you to recognize the process and leave the emotion out of it. None of this has bearing if he will be a good coach or not

The Pelicans haven’t made a superstar coach despite 15 straight years with generational players

I guess I understand the complacency displayed here

Lol is that your defense?

Everyone gets bad mouthed so it’s all the same

That’s nutty as hell

Defense? I was pointing out that there is absolutely zero basis for your statement that Griff is toxic, except that you can find two people bad-mouthing him. I'm not defending anything -- just pointing out that you made a ridiculous and baseless assertion.

Well, that's a different argument than the one you made before.

How many superstars have attracted superstar coaches? How many of those coaches went to small markets?

I wasn’t arguing for a superstar coach either.

Just not Willie green when the franchise is at a crossroads

So, who are you arguing for? Give me an example of the caliber of coach you would expect to get this job.

No emotion here whatsoever, and I totally understand where you are coming from.

I'm just not sure it is actually true or we have enough information to say it is. It could be.

Someone coaching longer than 4 years that isn’t suddenly propped up because he is coaching with a good team

Someone, that in an interview, basically admits to not being good at x’s & o’s, who hopes to succeed based on relationships. Sorry, but need a little more acumen than that.

Anyone I say you are going to attempt to discredit and there is going to be a big ole back & forth about how Vanterpool has never been a HC. I’m not looking to get into that here

Lester, I think you are right in a lot of what you are saying, to be honest.

But I just don't feel comfortable going too out on a limb with this one because I really just do not know. I'm getting more cautious in my old age.

The lack of experience is a concern, but he only has two years less coaching experience than Charles Lee, a favored candidate of yours. But he has WAY more NBA experience than Lee. Is it that big of a difference?

Vanterpool keeps getting passed over for some reason despite being an often interviewed candidate every year and guys like Dame pumping him up.
