Hawkins is averaging, per game, more points, more assists, and basically the same rebounds and blocks... the only major stat Whitmore is ahead in is steals...
I think Whitmore and Hawk will both be very good
I think with us already having 2 elite on ball defenders in Herb and Dyson, and wanting to surround Zion with shooters, Hawk was the better pick for us

Hey moron. He dropped 30 plus as a rookie last night. The entire NBA is impressed by this kid.
STFU
he was talking about Whitmore

Scoot has been awful
he hasn't lived up to the hype, for sure, but he's averaging 12 pt/game (4th among rooks from 2023), 4.9 ast/game (1st), and 3 reb/game (11th, but he's a PG)
thus the reason for the rating

Now do per 36 vs Hawkins and see where they rank.
That aside, also consider that Scoot has played a ton of his minutes with starters, and Hawkins a ton with bench players, which is going to bring down his efficiency, yet he still has more pp36 and far better shooting.
Scoot as a pg should be close to or leading rookies in assists with the minutes he's getting, yet the numbers are far from eye opening in any category. Dude has been the definition of medicore at best.

I’ll gladly go on record and admit that I thought he would take a year or two to get adjusted to league. I did not think he was going to be this good year 1. However, he’s been incredible this year.

The thing is eventually Scoot might improve and become a serviceable rotation guy. But this guy was billed as a franchise point guard. No one will publicly say it but I’m sure that organization is disappointed in how hes played his rookie season.
Meanwhile on a deep team Hawkins continues making an impact despite Willie giving him DNPs. Offensively hes a lot more ahead and gifted than most draft analysts though. If Hawkins was on the Blazers getting Scoots minutes he would be averaging near 18-20 points a game.

He puts up some serviceable stats on a shitty team that's barely competing in most games. His shooting numbers are atrocious, his assist numbers are good but it's balanced out by a turnover problem. He seriously might've had one of the worst games of all time this week where he shot 4-21 from the field and was -56.

Scoot's shooting is soooooooooo bad. It's amazing he even averages as many points as he does.

Ill admit, I wanted Whitmore or Cason Wallace. Whitmore has a high ceiling, and I think it was a good spot to roll the dice. Taking the best shooter in the draft is never a bad thing, but we will see in 3-4 years how it shakes out.

i think y'all are sorta confused... i'm not advocating for Scoot... he's not great, especially with how hyped he was coming into the draft... but he's putting up some number, and as of right now, with the numbers he's producing, that's what, in MY OPINION, he ranks... i could give a shite about Scoot, honestly, so i'm not sure why everyone is so fricking defensive about it, Jesus Christ

You mention the word scoot or Whitmore on here and peoples heads roll off.

Michael McNamara being the fricking moron he is was loudly thumping his chest about how bad of a pick this was and how scoot was the make or break option. Go figure scoot is fricking awful and Hawkins has turned out nice. Almost like he has no idea what he’s talking about?
Also go figure he is now Hawkins biggest advocate and his Twitter cult has yet to call him out on his 180 switch.

I wanted a shooter with size, so I was hoping for Kris Murray or possibly Jett Howard, and to try and pick up Kobe Brown in the second. Hawkins has clearly been the better player out of those 3, and of course the Clippers jumped up and took Kobe in the first, so that option in the second round was moot.
Glad they don’t listen to me.

I'll gladly eat my crow. I didn't like the pick at all at the time. I thought at his size, his defensive was gonna be really bad, but he makes up for his size limitations with pure effort.
I'm glad I was wrong. He has been an awesome rookie. I can't wait to see what the future holds for him. I think he can take over the CJ role in 2-3 years, which will really help our cap when the time comes.

I liked the pick. I did get concerned when I heard his wing span though.

It’s still griffinpresser

Ask yourself this:
In 5 years, is there a reasonable chance Hawkins is one of the 5 best shooters in the league?
The answer is yes and shooting is the most valuable skill in the league. It was a great draft pick.

Folks were on here this summer talking about Hawkins shooting form, size, etc.
It was/is pathetic.
