I’m going to say it: I wasn’t overly impressed with Zion tonight. I mean, he was fine, but his conditioning is still off and his shot is not there.

His dunks and passing were on point. He will get there. He probably needs to lose like 15-20 lbs.
You're a fool if you expect a polished product from a 19 year old.

I will say this, while I was mesmerised with Zion every time he touched the ball, counting all 15 points and every assist & rebound...

...I look up after the game and Jrue quietly & effortlessly put up 21 to lead the team.

Agree. Maybe in the 2nd games of back-to-backs, or if we have some injuries, but I am otherwise convinced that Frank is not going to play.

Eh. Other guys will step up in that department.

I think you guys are very much overreacting to my statement.

I’m just saying he has a lot to work on and his conditioning was clearly off. I’m glad Griff has made it clear he’s not a savior.

I think he will be the best player in the nba one day but he just has a lot to work on.

Jackson was truly unimpressive.

It’s just preseason game 1, but 2nd unit PG is a small concern.

Oh shut the frick up Lester. To call that statement an overreaction is a ridiculous overreaction in itself. It was mild criticism. I was positive about almost everything in this thread. Y’all need to relax a little.

I will say that his bag of tricks is pretty limited at this point. There will be plenty of opportunities for him to score as a cutter or a garbage man, so if teams manage to defend his drive he won't be useless on the court, he just can't be the primary option in that case. I think that's another reason why Griff decided to make this Jrue's team for now.

Not true. You haven’t seen him in the pick and roll or any other designed sets for him. You will need to wait and see him in real games before coming to that conclusion. They were very vanilla on the offensive end tonight. I think that’s a bit unfair there.

What exactly did you expect? That is quite literally his game. All his points will come within a few feet of the basket. Good passer. Will rebound and get in some passing lanes. Lethal in transition. Put backs & oops.

He won’t be a serviceable shooter for years, if ever. Yea, he’s a little out of shape, I think we all realized that after he’s been pimped all over creation this off season

So nothing has changed in 3 months and he’s still going to own shite despite not having “a shot”

I wasn't disappointed at all with Zion. I saw a lot to like. But to create his own offense he's very reliant on Bullyball. On the nights that the paint is packed and he's not getting calls he might be better off doing the cutting instead of the driving. I don't view that as a negative. He looked fantastic cutting to the basket and bailing teammates out that had been cut off.

Something else that I noticed is that NAW + Melli looked like a really good combo tonight in the pick-and-roll. If they are out there together, teams will have to guard them very carefully, because either will shoot the ball from 3 in half a second.

Brandon Ingram and Jrue are going to open up so many things for guys like Zion and even Favors. As long as they are a scoring threat, Zion should have enough space to work with. And that doesn’t even include the pressure on defenses to react to a guy like Redick. This offense is going to be dynamic.
