Disappointed to hear this. But not a shock. This is a huge moment for the franchise. Big win last night, have some momentum. We need to put together something to make a run. Shut Zion down, put him on the disabled list and pick up some guys to help out. Fill the f'n PF spot. We are not that far out..

Honestly, this is not a bad update. The fact that it isn't another surgery is good news, in my opinion.
That's the case only if you believe this doesn't end in surgery.
I would just go and get it out of the way now instead of just trying every option other than surgery.

welp, there goes my initial guess of a january 11th debut.
after the last setback I was pretty sure he'd be out for the season. sucks.

I do think that one result of this is that this vindicates Aaron Nelson's ultra-careful strategy with Zion two years ago.
Zion hated the slow pace at which he was brought back, and he hated the "bursts," but I wonder if he doesn't now see that a slow and careful rehab was best, considering the extreme amounts of force that he puts on his body.

You do realize this same doctor fixed Curry's ankles, Embiid's foot, he did Klay's Achilles repair. He's one of the best surgeons in the country, which is why teams send guys to him for surgeries.
From previous updates it seems like Fenkel is the one that did Zion's surgery to begin with.

Let's get a little prospective. Kevin Durant had the same injury and required THREE separate surgeries to heal it. He still came back as the best player in the league with no lasting effect on his foot. Sometimes this is just how this shite goes. Bigger question is whether Zion can use this rehab to remake his nutrition and training to play at a lighter weight. Tough to pull off with the limitations he's facing, but still doable...

mid-to-late February debut on the court this season, if everything goes right.
how do you get that?
4 to 6 weeks.
then if all is well, weight bearing.
thats a long long way from 5 v 5 practice.
mid march more likely than your guess.
and if he cant bear his own weight now hes not shooting jumpers.
he wont even be ready for birmingham until a few weeks before playoffs.

Four weeks from today is January 13th. After that, five weeks of ramp-up would be February 17. I think makes sense, but please note that I also said "if everything goes right."

This is the Hail Mary treatment that is an attempt to prevent surgery. The surgery is next and is probably more likely than not.

Either that or maybe platelets, but stem cells make a lot more sense to me. I've never even played a doctor on TV, though.

Williamson will be limited to low impact, partial weight-bearing activities
So......walking. They’re limiting him to walking. Bum isn’t dressing out this season.

I did some reading last night on platelet rich plasma, and that may very well be what the injection was.

I saw some articles from around 2009ish talking about using your own bone marrow. Either way it's likely they extracted something from somewhere else in Zion's body and then shot it into his foot.

I saw this segment from Bill Simmons with Jackie McMullin on Zion the other day (LINK Some decent talk). Good talk about the situation. They were totally clueless on alot of the particulars. Still interesting to hear some outside perspective..

While I fully admit that I am no world class athlete, I get PRP injections in both of my knees every three months. Prior to getting the injections my left knee was bone-on-bone and I experienced moderate pain just walking one lap at a local track. Now I can do Disney World with no problem and X-rays indicate that the cartiledge in my left knee has re-generated.
I'm a strong believer.
