In 2020, Brees will earn, while carrying a cap hit of $15,900,000.
I think that is an incomplete sentence. His cap hit for 2020 from the last contract was $15.9, his cap hit for 2021 from the last contract is $5.4. Now we have to factor in the $50M contract into the 2020 & 2021 numbers.
I would not be surprised to see Loomis find a way to structure it to average out the hit over 2020 & 2021. Or, figure out a way to kick some of this into 2022.

Yea, it seems incomplete to me as well. I'm assuming the official numbers will come out in the next day or 2.

I think we probably did not need him after he was swindled by that jeweler out of all those diamonds and rings. Poor decision macker and I think we have a 500 record since then anyway.

he's only taken one real paycut and that was in 2006
Brees' cap hits per year per Over The Cap.
2006: Brees had the 12th highest cap#
2007: 11th
2008: 10th
2009: 14th
2010: 8th
2011: 3rd
2012: 8th
2013: 4th
2014: 4th
2015: 1st
2016: 15th
2017: 10th
2018: 7th
2019: 9th
So over 14 years, Brees had a top 5 cap hit 4 times. I think you overexaggerated that statement a little.

Looks like an average salary of $25 million per year would rank Drew Brees 12th among NFL quarterbacks currently -- with several more QBs likely to pass that up in the coming days and year.
Brees‘ per year # won’t even be in the top 15 highest paid QBs once free agency is done
But muh discount

Apparently, they can be found in the “down vote” section ??

And Brees took less to help the team continue to build.
Less than what? That’s a ton of money for a 40+ y/o QB that had no intention of signing anywhere else

No intention on playing anywhere else but he damn sure aint playing for less than 20 million a year
Honestly, what amount would you expect a HOF QB to play for 10/15 million a year? You have CBs and WRs making more than that

Guess what, brady is about to get more than that, and he is a year older

Before you go around saying this in public, here's a list of the QBs that are making more than Brees this year.
Russell Wilson
Ben Roethlisberger
Aaron Rodgers
Jared Goff
Kirk Cousins
Carson Wentz
Dak Prescott
Matt Ryan
Ryan Tannehill
Jacoby Brissett
Jimmy Garoppolo
Matt Stafford
Derek Carr
It's not about his age and intentions. It's about the market, and specifically, his value to the Saints and CSP's offense.

Right. Cap wise this is now basically a 2 year, $70 mil deal.
And as long as he has an actual salary next year and this isn't really a 1 year, $50 mil deal with the second year voiding for cap purposes, we can split that salary next year over at least 2 more years, and up to 5.
My guess is his cap number will be about $30 mil this year and $40 mil next year.

Greedy Brees strikes again.
Thanks for sharing your opinion and lack of football knowledge...apparently you haven't been seeing what FA QB's have been signing for...
Drew is a bargain- especially a 2 year deal to spread cap money...

We’re going to void the 2nd year of the contract and pay it over a 3 to 5 year span. Whatever the maximum is. This was a very team-friendly deal. Right now, I believe we have something around 7mil in cap space. And you know Loomi$ always has something up his sleeve....
