Rattler is a second year guy playing with the 1s and he looked slightly worse than rookie Shough playing with reserves. Its early, but that says a lot

Shough passed the eye test for me. No he was not perfect. He made mistakes, threw a pick. Rookies do that. If he is the starter for the year, expect 15+ interceptions and 7-8 wins tops. That's rookies. However, he just looked more capable of developing into a starter than Rattler.

Maybe it shouldn't, but the yardage difference meant a lot to me.

what's their yardage difference when you take out that 1 pass. And what's their YPA? All I saw yesterday was checkdowns.

lol so take away every qbs biggest play of the game and yes you’ll see a drastic change. Why on earth would you “take away that one play”? The one play he dropped a 50 yard dime? He was also way more decisive and accurate than Rattler.

Big plays count. Not sure if you are aware

This is what I saw. He seemed to make quicker decisions and deliver the ball well when he did. The problem is it's clear NFL defenses are going to be able to fool him (at least early) which will lead to INTs like we saw yesterday.

Rattler didn't throw any INTs, but he looked hesitant throughout. Yes, he had pressure...but that is going to happen in the NFL The QB has to navigate it.

If nothing else, it may be worthwhile to give Shough the start vs. Jacksonville to get more of a look.

It’s not even that Shough showed out. It’s that he’s pretty clearly in the same ballpark as Rattler. It makes no sense to not play him.

I will say the slants really started popping with him in there. The pick 6 was a “eh maybe you can’t make that throw in the NFL, huh” play that honestly id rather get added to his experience in the preseason. Not that concerned with it

Shough is checkdown Charlie

That is a lazy take. What I saw was a guy progressing through his reads quickly and taking what the defense was giving. Most of his checkdowns went for 2-4 yards. I would rather it be 2nd and 6 instead of 2nd and 20 because he took a sack waiting for something to open up downfield.

Brees threw a lot of checkdowns (and got criticized for it by some), and is the greatest player in Saints history.

There's a reason a checkdown exists

Just for fun I did it to see.

With the big pass Shough had 165 yards for 7.5ypa (22 attempts). Without the big pass Shough had 111 yards for 5.3ypa (21 attempts). Rattler had 53 yards for 4.8ypa(11 attempts). So even taking out the big play Shough was better, but closer.

Thing is can Rattler make big plays? We saw Shough can.

Take what the defense gives you and it will open up the big play. Brees was great at that (until his arm fell off).

I think a lot of what looked like checkdowns were scripted plays. He’s a rookie in his first nfl drive. Everything will be short, easy, and low risk.

heard Ross Jackson say Shough was 8-8 for 80+ yards against the blitz, just 1 sack.

Not bad

I just rewatched the game. I don’t have any complaints with either’s play. Offense will be stale when you are checking down to players who aren’t explosive with the ball in their hands. I saw some burst from Velus Jones on one of his check downs but not much outside of that.

Rattler had a couple of good throws that were dropped also.

Overall slight edge to Shough from today.

I don’t agree with the sit Shough takes I see in this thread. He’s older than Rattler and not going against some savvy vet who has had some success in this league. If he has a chance to be our guy, he should be beating out Spencer Rattler.

I don’t think this is really a completion but neither guy had any of the offensive players that really matter yesterday

Some of those "drops" were throws into tight coverage or behind the receiver, but 1 or 2 legit ones as well.

Remember when ya'll preferred Shough over Shedeur. How's that working out for ya'll?

Lmao. The team isn't good. What are you talking about? Last year Rattler was 0-5 vs PLAYOFF teams. Almost came back and beat Washington with Jayden Daniels. Rattler and Shuck are even in my eyes. Shuck can see over the line so has that advantage.

The coach is the only one that can evaluate these 2. Nobody else knows what was going on. We will get to see Shuck with the ones next week so youll get your wish.

I'm willing to bet if Rattler outperforms him we will have tons of threads saying we still don't have a QB.
