The GFS looks like it but will let a professional chime in

How far south are we talking? New Orleans area?
Honestly, it’s way too early to be specific on on who will get what type of precipitation. It will fluctuate the next few days.

New Orleans will get 2 inches of ice. Time to hit that panic button Swagga

GFS is a known poor model for southern snow.
12z Euro and GFS are pretty similar looking at 120 hours (Day 5). That is on the edge of when model accuracy really starts to drop off.
This gives some credence to a Southern Plains into SE winter storm during the timeframe the models are showing.
The 12z Euro has a lot of moisture, and it is typically too warm at the surface. So, given the setup on the 12z Euro, a lot of this would probably be freezing rain, and it could be pretty far south. Similar to what the 18z GFS is showing.

The best you can do for right now is just wait and watch. Deep South snow and ice is the biggest pain in the arse to forecast and we are still too far out for particulars.
If I could I'd gladly donate my share to Colorado. I really don't want to deal with it, especially ice.

You can get these gloves from Amazon or prob a comparable equal brand from any local safety supply distributor. $10 pr approx
I use them doing yard work around the house and they dont get in the way like a heavy lined glove would.

I’ll take a look at this later. I nail the so called chance of snow for Louisiana last night.
quote:
This issue with this winter weather is this setup isn’t how Louisiana gets any snow. This is a quick post-frontal setup where the air is too dry behind the front, moisture lacks, and the upper-level setup is too nebulous.
To get snow in Louisiana you need cold air already is place then a Texas Low forms over the northern gulf. We don’t get immediate post-cold front snow. What we have tomorrow is like shooting blanks after taking flomax.

If youd ever experienced 280 after a light dusting of snow you wouldn't even ask that question.
If Bham gets 2" of ice itll be shutdown for days and the people on the roads will be morons with bad survival instincts.

None of those roads can be properly maintained for winter travel like you’d see in northern states because the trucks and plows don’t exist.
As someone who has lived in an area with frequent winter weather I’m really confident driving in snow, but won’t leave the house if there’s ice because there is no amount of driver competency that can keep you on the road even if it’s just bad black ice.
I get you’re under a lot of pressure to make it up there, but hopefully they’ll cancel or postpone if that projection comes to pass because I wouldn’t drive from Hoover to Mountain Brook in ice and keep in mind that area has some real hills and switchback roads depending on where you are.
