From my experience the 30a area is mostly made up of wealthy Atlantans of Yankee and mid-Atlantic origin, along with wealthy retirees from around the south. There's also a smidgen of trust fund babies.

It's gotten too easy to spot a rich suburban mom in any big city in the south. Premium SUV with a 30a sticker, head to toe Lululemon and carrying a Stanley.

Yep. The same type that won't be voting in November.

Seems like it’s mostly backlash against people acting super douchey about going there.

Who do you people hang around? I don’t know a single person who acts douchey about going on any vacation. Comments like this just scream inferiority complex.
this.

jokes aside, i think you see the "douchey" stuff on here because it's become more upper middle class so there are hot chicks with fit guys instead of a bunch of waynes and beaus in their LSU PFGs.

The only place I really hear the word "trashy" is here but I have a few issues with 30A.

First, the lack of options on the beach is my biggest issue. If I am paying that kind of money, I don't want to load of up golf cart and drive to the beach. I want to walk it.

Second, I am not looking for nightlife or entertainment when I go to the beach so much of the allure is something I inherently try to avoid.

Lastly, it's the way people thin of and celebrate 30A as a status symbol. Dude, calkm your tits...it's still the redneck riveria. You're only paying Martha's Vineyard prices.

Seems like a bunch envious folks in this thread. They trash 30A while packing 6 people in a Hampton Inn in Galveston.

Thats really only the two places to enjoy the gulf shores beach. 30A or Galveston. Nowhere else...just those two.

bullshite!

We're going on vacation in August and I just compared all of the costs and flying the 2 of us to Cancun and renting a house for a week is significantly more than what we're paying in Florida.

$5,000 for three, airfare and accommodations to Hawaii just last month

It can most assuredly be done.

Throw DFW suburban Frisco and Southlake families too. If I took a shot every time I saw a 30a sticker on a Range Rover in a Costco parking lot id be drunk by the time I entered the building.

This is what people who have never traveled will say...It's the same people that say "New Orleans is the best city in the world".

It's not their fault, they don't know what they don't know....

I do not care either, but many whom vacation there feel to need to bring it up at every opportunity like the atheists, crossfitters and, Vegans, etc. I have nice things and take my family on very nice vacations yet do not feel the need to put the stickers on my car to say "Look at me.....LOOK AT ME!!!"

Again, I have zero idea who you people are hanging out with but I know quite a few people who go to 30A yearly and none of them act like it is anything other than it is, a really nice spot to vacation on the gulf coast for families. Maybe I don’t perceive these comments as bragging, but others would. I guess I also don’t hang around with anyone who put stickers on their cars either

Exactly, any time I see the word pretentious, I think they just mean unaffordable to them.

with a lot of the most popular 30A beaches you're setting up shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of idiots for a beach that is only slightly (if at all) better than lesser crowded areas.

But if playing putt-putt and going to Pineapple Willys is that important to you don't let that stop you.

The Atlantic side doesn't get enough love. You can sit in bathwater at home, don't need the Gulf for that.

Round trip airfare for two to Cancun is $1200 from my location. A house directly on the beach is ~$300/night in Puerto Morelos. For a few dollars more you can have breakfast and lunch made everyday for you. Restaurants, bars, and markets all within walking distance. Reef snorkeling right off the beach. You can't get near that price for a house directly on the beach along 30A during the summer. If you really want to go cheap, condos are only $75-90/night.
