Sorry to hear Salmon. I had a tree fall on the back of my house as well for Ida. Master bedroom, bathroom, and back porch completed totaled. The advice you were already given is sound. You definitely need to get the trees off ASAP to mitigate any further damage. If you think you took enough pictures, take some more.
All in all, took roughly nine months for my rebuild to be complete but that was also when thousands were also completing rebuilds. Hopefully yours is shorter. Also be prepared to fight with your insurance. Argue every nook and cranny and don't pay more than your deductible (hopefully).

Had two friends go through this...
Instead of a storage unit, get a Pod. You can put it close to the house and easily move items in and out as needed during the rebuild. One friend got two.

Sorry to hear that man.. I went through the same thing in 2020 when hurricane Laura hit and a huge tree fell right through the middle of my house…
Luckily none of us were at home when the tree fell. We were actually on vacation in Florida but was a depression phone call from our neighbor when he told us about it.

1) pictures pictures pictures
2) protect as much as you can from additional damage (you have a contractual duty to mitigate)
3) more pictures
4) make sure insurer is on notice and keep them on a tight leash. If they aren't moving fast enough on something, send email/call and advise issue and your plan to deal with it yourself if they dont step up.
5) receipts for everything

Having had that happen in a hurricane, I can tell you that you want to contact a reputable contractor and/or roofer. Get them to tell you how much it will cost to repair the damage. If you can swing it yourself, just go ahead and pay for the repairs and submit invoices to your insurance company. Invoices are better than estimates.

Very sorry to read this. We lost our house to a fire in 2018 and the rental house we were living in while the new one was being built burned 6 months later. As has been said - pictures are your friend. Save EVERY receipt that has anything to do with clean up, construction, any lost contents, etc. I can't stress enough how important it is to keep a small notebook with you to jot down things as you think about/remember them. It is amazing the contents a home will accumulate as kids grow. You have the insurance, don't try to go cheap and help the insurance company. Demand the same quality yall are accustomed to.

Not for today, but when you try to describe 'things'.
Anything you bought from Amazon Prime is still in their system
You can open your "Returns and Orders" page, it will open to Orders.
It will tell you how many orders in the past 30 days. Under that, it will tell you what you ordered in past years.the magic of it is, it will tell you everything you've ordered from them back to your first order.
This could be useful for some.

I don't have any thing to really add or help here. But just 1 month ago, tree fell on my house. The house isn't totally destroyed, and it can be repaired, but for the time being it's unliveable. Wife and I have been in a hotel ever since.
I was freaking out like hell when it happened, my wife was the one who had to calm me down. My car was also destroyed by the tree. But as I've come to see, material items can be restored. Im just thankful nobody was harmed.
But yea, shite truly sucks.

Had a big arse oak fall on my cabin right over the room I was in at the time.
Just messed up the roof.
Log walls for the win. Held that tree up like nothing.

Any advice for someone that has dealt with this? I guess I’m moving my family to my parents till we get this cleaned up.
Hopefully you have good temporary living limits on your policy. Dont rush to settle on your part- look it over to make sure you are getting what you paid for. That doesnt mean let them drag their feet... it means dont sign the settlement until you have looked it over well and understand the terms and amounts.

No, it's not the truth. It's not anywhere near the truth. I have spent an entire career in mental health and you have no idea what you are talking about. So you take your kid in for trauma counseling and presto-chango they come out as transgender? Just how does that work exactly because I am about to make a lot of money?

I've used for my big oak twice, good results but I bet they are going to be slammed with business for the next week. EcoMulch should have a fleet of trucks with chippers going around right now for all the free product out on the curbs.

Sorry for this bro. It will be long and hard but most end up better when all is said and done.
Get a temporary residence search started. You will likely be out of your house for 6 months minimum. Most likely you are looking at a year.
Take care of your love ones. The stress from this can be hard on relationships.
Good luck man!
