72 was the first year of the decompression engines and unleaded, IIRC.

Some of y'all haven't priced some of these vehicles lately. Quite a few don't fit the $45,000 and under criteria the original poster stated.

Was the GT an option package?
I don't recall ever seeing one.

have a 2022 spyder I love but if I could get another it would be an older targa since new ones decided to be for rich folks
I also have a 1980 targa I purchased 15 years ago. I paid $17K at the time for it.

Apparently, neither did the OP.
Sure, you can find 1967 Cougars for under $45K all day. These cars need resto though. Any of those that are more than a 30-footer(you know, look good from 30 feet or more away), are a bit more than his $45K or under.

What’s the OT‘s definition of “affordable” today?
OT Balla:
Quarter of $1 million car just went for under 170K on bring a trailer. “High mileage” 60k
OT poor:
Same mileage as the above, but half the price At $85k
ETA: just saw the $45k threshold. I don’t think there’s anything I’d want in that tier.

I beg to differ.
32k on Ebay currently
The corvette I pictured is also currently for sale on ebay for 35k
The jaguar is admittedly 46.5k. You got me!

I had one for a while. It was very sweet drive: it loved both interstates and winding roads.
I would still have it if it fit into my needs better and cost a bit less to maintain.

Yeah those don’t exist anymore. My dream is to maybe get a 991.2 targa 4S or something. Was close to one in Miami blue for 140k but I didn’t have the balls.

Current would be the 2026 Bentley Continental.
Classic would be 1976 Ford Gran Torino like Starsky & Hutch.

And I use the word affordable loosely.

I like those a lot.
Built like a tank.
Gotta replace all the rubber bushings, due to age, but generally solid and rust-free.

I stand corrected. I was looking at a '67 or '68 just a few months ago. That is a fair price, although a bit of work is still needed. Seems like average price for 1st gen is now around $42K. It was a bit more than that when I was shopping.

I almost bought one in high school before heading off to college.
06 E46 M3 Convertible (Black/Black) with 60k miles on it for $23k at Orr BMW. Dad said I'd wreck it and kill myself (which was probably a good call). Now you can't find a semi-decent one for that price. They've skyrocketed in value.

No worries. The engine looks pretty clean on the one pictured on ebay as well. I'd size up the tires and who knows what else might need doing once you actually get inside and drive it- but at 32k it seems like a good deal on the surface Been there for a few months.
