The bigger DW platforms often have FRCs but not on the shelf like this. The smaller facilities usually don't even have true lifeboat. Just inflatable rafts.
DW = Deep Water
FRC = Fast Rescue Craft
Greenhead, what did the close call on the 76 consist of?

Cabin completely smoked out, Emergency hard landing with no landing gear down. No injuries.

Just to clarify, that was a Bristow AW139

Not true. The LG was down. I saw the video and the pictures.
And, as mentioned, it was a AW139.

It is being reported that one of the workers was in his mid-thirties, and was returning home to celebrate Christmas with his wife and baby on the way. This couple lost their son earlier this year to a drowning accident.
Now, she's widowed, lost her son, and has another on the way.
I can't imagine the pain and trauma she is experiencing right now.

You are talking about the one in Houma right? This was a different event.

Yes the one in Houma. If you are talking about a different one, my apologies and I will edit my reply.

Could all of these 'copter crashes be related in some way to the sabotaging of power plants and food processing plants happening across the country? I'm sure there are a number of wackos who would like to hurt the O & G industry any way they can.

I was flying in to the USS Carl Vinson a couple weeks back for a day of training. The aircraft was a CV-22 Osprey. As we were landing, either the pilot wasn't paying attention, or someone on the deck wasn't, because suddenly we made a huge veer to port and for a few seconds all I could see looking to my left was water, no horizon, and in those few seconds I thought, "Yep, he's going to flip this and this is the moment when I meet my demise." The copter suddenly went to level and I looked out the starboard side and there was a second Osprey about 50' from ours rising up off the deck. Not sure who was at fault, but our pilot, a young kid of about 24 years old, I'd say, was like, "Sorry about that. Gotta' be more careful."
Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled when he was my pilot on the way back.

Probably a dumb question, as I know helicopters are much faster than boats, but wouldn't boats be the safer way to transport workers?

doubt that. More like poor maintenance and/or pilot error if I had to guess.
And I am.

Ever transferred from a rocking boat to a platform?

No, which is why I asked.

There are usually two ways…hop off the boat to a long arse ladder/stairs (walking across an up and down shite arse gangway)or up on a man basket attached to a crane.

Nope and don't ever intend to.
A lot of those offshore platforms are very high up off the water, especially out in deepwater.

“Fly and die with PHI” was the saying back then
