My deductible is $700 too. I pay $280 for me and my three kids. If I add my wife, it goes up to $1,188. Thankfully, she has insurance through her job.

Insurance is not about healthcare. It's about transferring wealth from one group to another.

Insurance plans now days are designed to use financial carrots and sticks to push people into high deductible plans that shift more of the cost to the policyholder and less on the insurance company.

Family of 4 on a PPO plan the employee pays 75% of the premium and the employer pays 25%

Single Employee on top tier high deductible plan employee pays 0% and employer pays 100% of the plan.

What I've been told is the AHA (Obummer Plan) had buried in the details restrictions on the percentages employers would pay for certain policies. No longer the days of splitting 50/50 or the really old days of employer paying 100% unless it met certain criteria.Mainly policies shifting more of the cost of healthcare to the patient or policy holder.

There's so much about the AHA that is terrible for the individuals but if got so much support in Washington and little support to repeal because it is very profitable for the insurance companies and big businesses. But what to you expect from the gravy train of Washington politics.

That's why you see those commercials where someone is saying "I found this great plan for only $19 a month... "
We're paying for the rest of it.

Correct.

I had a job briefly with a company that was 100% self-insured and it was awesome for a young man. It was cheap, low co-pay, low deductible. The catch was there was a total limit of like $2M, the intent being if it was THAT bad you just had to take the obamacare route

I had to make sure I got all the shitty details right, but I’m a single on BCBS silver. $4200 deductible and $9450 out of pocket max. Paying around $240/month.

Insurance rates are going up to cover big increases in hospital/MD billing rates that are used to pay for illegals showing up in emergency.
Most people with insurance think all is well because their coverage takes care of the medical bills, but their insurance payments are ultimately funding bills incurred by illegals.
A huge reason to vote MAGA.

Deductible is per person and max OOP is total for the plan.

I.e. if you have a 3k deductible, family of 4, and 10k max oop, and your whole family gets in a horrible car wreck, you'd hit the 10k max oop before you hit the 12k sum total of everyone's deductibles.

Eta: and don't get me started on the maximum annual contribution to the HSA being lower than the maximum oop for the plan. frickin garbage shite. Glad the government in their infinite benevolence tells me how much of my own money I'm allowed to save in a year though!

you will stfu and give us our cut....our we will kidnap you, throw you in a cage, and keep you there until you understand the repercussions of your actions!!!

i dont understand why you are so angry...they just want to wet their beak a little, why do you deny them

fricking arse holes man

im 42 and people always ask when i plan to retire and i always tell them how the frick am I supposed to know? if you told someone 15 years ago....insurance would look like it currently does they would be freaking out....so no telling where it will be in 12-15 years when im ready. might have to work all the way to 65 just because of insurance.

Good to know. Thanks.
So the thought process of “once I hit the deductible I am good” really doesn’t apply if you have a max out of pocket? I am currently only insuring myself, if that matters

If our government has even the slightest competence, national health care would be better than our current insurance system.

But government here is so completely awful that somehow this awful insurance system is still better

The most important thing to remember at this time of open enrollment is to get your Covid booster.

Don't quote me on this, but I think you hit deductible, then do the split thing till you hit the max OOP.

A healthcare reimbursement system based on the amount of services provided not the quality of care received.
