Shingles affects only one side of your body, left or right. Strange but true.
True. They also follow along your nerve zones from what I was told. I had a mild case that was just a red spot on my chest which never blistered, but that nerve zone also wraps around the back and down the arm. I had hot spots on my mid-lower back that never turned red. The worst for me was the tingling nerves in my arm. Three years later it still flares up in my elbow and arm when I get stressed.

The clusters of blisters that develop are nerve endings

Sounds like shingles. I had a very small red area show up on my lower back last year. Didn't think anything of it, but it got a little itchy and wasn't going away on it's own. Went to the dermatologist and sure enough, shingles. I had chickenpox, I'm 39 years old, and I never had a lick of pain with it. Apparently, this scenario is totally possible (and you should feel pretty good that this is how you're getting it.....most people have a lot of pain, too).
See a doc, get some Valtrex. Yeah, herp meds are the cure.
PS: You gots da AIDS.

Yes, I had Shingles about 3 years ago. Went to sleep fine, but woke up with a rash on my chest and back. Clothing touching the area was painful. Dr. prescribed some topical cream.

Had it in my eye. One of my worst pains ever.

I just took the shingles vaccine this year. My uncle had it and said it was the worst pain he had.

Sounds like what I had. Started on my chest and went to my back. Before the rash started, it felt like sunburn. When the rash started, we determined it was shingles. I was in the UK at the time, but fortunately my father in law carries Valtrex with him for cold sores, so I started taking that immediately. It was a minor inconvenience. If you treat it immediately after the blisters form, you will be in good shape.

Yes. They were painful blisters. Get to a Dermatologist.

I have had shingles twice. Started out with a burning/painful area. I thought it was a spider bite. Then spread down my side and back. Travels along the nerve trunk. Painful as hell. Miserable time. Hopefully, that is not what it is.

Hell yes, get checked quick. Mine looked like crusty pimples that went from under my left pec around my ribs on my back to the right shoulder blade in a line. Hurt like 50 kinds of hell

sounds like smallpox. I hope you aren't Native American.

Had a client get it in his ear. Went misdiagnosed as ear infection and other things until his face went numb/palsy. He is still a bit fricked up from it because some face nerves got fried or something.

Yes. Had them 10 years ago. Wouldn't wish that misery on anyone short of Hitler. Prayers sent.

Thanks. I got an appt first thing tomorrow morning at a dermatologist. For me it just itches and feels very similar to a sunburn, the way it is so sensitive to any touch or movement of clothes. Hopefully going tomorrow is getting to it quick enough that I don’t have to deal with any worse pain or it spreading. I’m supposed to have LASIK surgery next week. Hope this being on my torso means that it won’t end up on my face or eyes. I think this was brought on by stress, have a ton of stuff going on right now and it feels like there is no end in sight to take a breath.

Had it around 10 years ago. Started on my lower back, wrapped around my pelvis on the right side, then down my inner thigh and the side of my ball sack. Wasn’t nearly as painful as I expected from what other people have said.

Shingles is devastating in older folks. My FIL had a bad case and now suffers permanent nerve damage. My health insurance wouldn’t cover the vaccination until I was 60 but after seeing what it did to him I gladly paid out of pocket for a shot. The original shot I had was only 40% effective. The most current vaccination requires 2 shots and is about 90% effective.

Mine followed a nerve path around my skull. I kid you not, my hair hurt. Unfortunately, by the time it was diagnosed properly, it was too late for any drugs to be effective. Three different doctors told me I had the flu. It was just horrible pain for three weeks.

It stayed out of your eye? Mine went from eye down to my cheek and all the way up to the top of my head with like 3 nerves branching out on the right side.
It's been 20+ years ago but still have days where it's sensitive. Like when it's cold and windy. I've always been one to not go to the doctor unless it's obvious there is a problem. It wasn't hugely obvious so I wasn't ever misdiagnosed but probably had the same effect. MUCH better to catch it earlier.
