The guys on chess.com LOVE to castle as soon as possible. My opening strategy is to build a case of attack knowing this is coming. They’re usually helpless and fold when I expose it early and they need to figure out how to play with limited protection of their king.

Not well, but yes. I enjoy it
Same here. I play with my Dad most Sunday nights. He’s in his early 80’s now, so It’s more about spending time with him & sipping a little bourbon too. We’ve had some great matches & several stalemates, but he usually kicks my arse. I’m ok with it

Good players don’t talk like this. They simply give their rating if asked. Players who do talk like this are invariably not rated very high.

Play people slightly better than you, and I mean slightly better. The game is no fun if you destroy everyone or get destroyed by everyone. Plus, you don’t really get better in either of those scenarios.

Sir, this is a Wendy's. We can tell all about F250s and checking knuckles at sonic. That's the extent the advice should expect from here.

I don't know much about it, but they say that Velo and Location are very important, but, that might be referring to Baseball.

I got to 1240 elo at my peak when I was playing a shite ton last year. I didn’t learn how the pieces moved until I was 23 about 3 years back. In the beginning, you don’t need to worry about openings, just play the same E4 or D4 every time. You should buy the chess.com premium subscription so you can analyze every game, you focus on not blundering pieces. When you stop blundering pieces in the opening and have an idea of what your opponent is trying to do, you’ll start to rise up.
Also don’t play bullet, you won’t get better when you don’t have time to actually think.

In the 70's, when Bobby Fisher was a household name, I got caught up in it, learned the game from some excellent rated players and within a couple of years, played competitively. Since it's been over 50 years, I don't remember what the highest ranking I achieved.
But, there is a downside, the same thing that happened to me with contract bridge, I couldn't put it down. I lay awake all night, replaying games, moves, strategy. It was all consuming to the point that my wife said it was her and the baby or chess.
In 1987 I was stuck on a ship for a week loading freight, the Korean engineer kept bugging me to play him, finally I said one game, and only one game. I mated him in about ten moves, my mistake, the next 4 days he wanted a rematch.
