My wife and her family are from just north of Indy. It’s flat as hell and really not much to do as far as outdoor activities. Carmel is really nice. It’s a suburb of Indy and has everything you’ll ever want. The people are nice up there. Just big ole pasty midwesterners. The small towns are about as red neck as one can get. Good ole boys who love to deer hunt and eat boiled cabbage.

With all being said I don’t hate Indy. The public schools are great in the burbs, there’s some cool things to do in the city and tons of sporting events all the time happening. Children's musuem is world class. If we had to move there I wouldn’t hate it but It wouldn’t be my first choice honestly.
This! I have family that lives about an hour north of Indy. Of all the places I'd consider moving, Indy would be near the bottom. Ugly arse State and bland food. If the OP is into looking at soybean and corn fields, you probably couldn't find a better place.

If you're looking for a rust belt city that has a lot of medical work I would suggest Pittsburgh or Columbus. Columbus is very easy to get around.

And yet, he has chosen to live in Denver post-playing career, which he where he does his Manningcast from most Monday nights.. of course, we are talking about a multi-gazillionaire, so your mileage may vary.

I lived south of Indy in Columbus. Carmel is consistently voted one of the best places to raise a family. It is off the loop and still only 20-25 minutes from downtown. I would look there as well as areas off Fall Creek. This is closer to the city but you would never know as there are a lot of wooded areas. There is also a reservoir nearby that has some nice homes.

Culture is different as they are generally not as warm as southerners but not bad. Great outdoors as you travel south towards southern Indiana. Also, you are an hour from Cincinnati , 2 from Louisville and 3 from Chicago.

I second Chattanooga but I also really like Greenville, South Carolina. Knoxville isn’t so bad either.

Chattanooga has some of the worst designed portions of interstate which make it congested at all hours. It's nice, but just know that I-24 is clogged from I-59 to I-75. Other than that it's great.

I wouldn't move anywhere snow stays on the ground in the winter.

Are you set on fairly large cities? I always liked the midwest because they have the amenities but hardly any people. But I can't stand that kind of cold.

Good people, good cost of living , grey skies, a bit boring. Everything in life is a trade off.

Indianapolis is extremely boring, I've spent a little time there. Not that it's a bad thing if you're into the boring life.

I spent a lot of time in Indy working for a company based out of there for 3 years. I loved Indy. It was a very clean, well run city. The areas to the north are the best, Carmel, Zionsville, fishers, and noblesville are great family communities. They all have awesome school systems.

Yes it gets cold but the average snowfall is not what you think it is. I'd move there if I had a job.

Last winter I was in Kentucky deer hunting and had some down time and decided to go meet some friends in Indiana for the day. (fourish hour drive from where I was) The difference in people and just everything in general going from Kentucky to Indiana was just weird. The people were super weird and it felt like I was on a different planet.

So no I would never move to a northern state if they are all like that.

I'm considering leaving the North Dallas Suburbs for Indy. The current cost of living, outrageous property taxes, and the large influx of Californians are taking off the shine

Have you talked to the people from Cali coming here? They are usually conservative and leaving the state for political reasons. Anyway, the whole thing is overrated. Pick a diffferent burb in DFW. Go to the Ft Worth side and almost everyone is republicans leaning. Do that before moving north

I would not advise a southerner to migrate up into the Midwest unless for a massive raise. The Midwest is a great place to be from, not a great place to be.

Can confirm.

I have some extended family that lives just north of Indy, and some friends who live in Peru. Lots of corn fields and motorsports. Fishing isn't too bad. Drive throwaway cars, because they will die to rust there. If you are a hunter, there are some big deer there. Only place I've ever seen with drive through convenience stores.

You can just binge watch the show Good Bones (Home rehab show based out of Indy) to learn the neighborhoods
