Thats what I don't get. Why does it have to be a pitbull? I absolutely MUST have this ugly, block headed, relatively dumb animal that can snap for no reason.

My wife and I got in one of our biggest fights early on in our marriage when she was early in her pregnancy and her best friend wanted to come over with her pit. I made some comment about how it’s fine now but how that dog will never be within a hundred yards of us once our first kid is born.
She was appalled and was defending her friend and her dog (both of whom are genuinely great and very nice). I told her it didn’t matter if he’d never harmed a fart, we weren’t taking that chance. Because she’s a woman, the argument of course spiraled into god know’s what nonsense about judging people unfairly and all sorts of shite lol, but in the end there was simply no way I was yielding.
There’s just no reason to ever take the risk. You’re playing a genetics version of Russian roulette with your kid’s life. I’m sure various types of pits have hundreds or thousands of blanks in the chamber, but every one of them has a real round and if it happens to go off around you, that could be it for your kid. No thank you.

Really?
Nothing says I am a tough, street smart MF'er like a pit.

You sound more like the woman. Put a five point harness in every vehicle, and forcibly turn car engines off if the forward looking camera detects a stopped school bus, etc.
You know damn well there are trashy mofos that could turn a Ridgeback, a Terrier, German Shepherd, a Belgian, and a hundred other breeds into death machines. How is it that Belgians, repeatedly trained to maul the hell out of people (purposefully trained to attack on command), don't kill any kids? Cause they're trained properly. Just license all dog owners, and euthanize the dog if it doesn't follow owner instructions. Millions of soccer moms in Navigators will miss their golden doodles, though.

My parents neighbor's pit bull blew it's knee out and had to have surgery. I told my mom good, now y'all might be able to outrun it.

"both of whom are genuinely great and very nice".
No they are not. Certainly not the pit bull.
Genuinely a killer no matter what. It's in the breed.
Wife and her friend are idiots. Sorry but true.

My wife and I are absolute dog lovers. All we do is rescue, so we are passionate about them. With that said, we never approach a pit if the owner is walking them etc…. Too much risk. Kinda like swimming around great whites. I like my life.

Unfortunately there are some “human breeds” that cannot be trusted as well.

Not all pit bull dogs each children. Some never get the opportunity.
I've read 5% of pit bulls who live in homes (as opposed to outside I guess) will attack a family member at some point unprovoked.
If true, the M&M analogy applies. If you have a bowl of 100 M&Ms and you know 5 are poisoned, would you let your kid eat one?

Pit bulls make up 6-8% of the dog population in the United States but are responsible for ~ 70% of dog attack related fatalities.
They should be humanely exterminated.
The f**king morons who own these things and defend them, they piss me off worse.

The darn dog shelters are full of Pitts and Pitt mixes. It seems to me that this is a breed of dog preferred by poor people who aren’t responsible pet owners. That’s why so many end up in the shelters.

That number correlates to the amount of dumbasses we have

fricking exactly....I get why someone doesn't want a little dog but if you want a bigger one get a Doberman or whatever. Why more cities/states haven't banned pitts is crazy to me. They don't offer any better companionship than other dogs provide.

Can’t imagine surviving the abortion gauntlet only to get unalived at 1.
I was 1 once. Coulda been me.

Doberman
Know someone with one of these and he’s hilarious. Huge lap dog and goofball. But protective and intimidating when he wants to be. Much better alternative to a Pit.
