Are their workers here illegally? That would be the only reason they'd be afraid to show up to work. Why doesn't the company get some legal work visa workers from Mexico? Many agricultural companies do it the right way. This one seems to be doing it the wrong way, and admitting it.

It's not so easy to just "get legal work visa workers from Mexico" when it comes to H-2B as opposed to farmers who get H-2A. H-2B is capped and a lottery system, H-2A is not. There's been bipartisan pushes to up the H-2B cap lately.

What a load of shite. Did we just deport a bunch of illegals we didn't hear anything about? Not likely.

I'm glad crawfish are a one and done for me. I usually eat them once or twice a year. I don't dislike them, I just don't get all excited about them. Shrimp or crabs, sure. Worth every penny. Crawfish..nahh.

Wait till after Easter. They'll be giving them away.

Also, Israel/U.S. attacking Iran is driving the prices up even more.

I don't feel sorry for them.......they voted for it. Elections have consequences.

Plenty of people in Louisiana do it the legal way, Peter Santenello on YouTube has a series of videos on Louisiana and one of the videos focuses on crawfish farming. Elections do have consequences for the hypocrites that vote one way but have no problem scamming the system at the same time.

Most of the crawfish peeled for tailmeat is sub-marketable sizewise. They are called peelers in the industry due to their small size.

So peeled crawfish going up.

Should make for unpeeled prices going down.

I call bullshite. Farmers come up with a reason every year for a rate increase. This is not surprising one bit. The price of crawfish hasn't been worth the cost for years, when you see how much meat a 35 lb sack yields.

Give me a shrimp boil over crawfish.

Yall do know you can drink beer when you peel shrimp? You can have potatoes, corn, and mushrooms as well. Shocking!

jesus, yall are fricking dumb. Nobody uses illegals - the govt shut down
messed up their H2B visas

And the articles has so many misconceptions its fricking ridiculous

Yall should be celebrating because it will probably make the live and boiled cost come somewhat down more than usual later in the year - which is what yall bitch about all the time anyways

the tail meat will be higher all year though if nothing changes in the next month

Doesn't take much processing to put 35 lbs of live into a sack

I guess this would be the one job everybody would be in agreement on with AI and Optimus robots taking over those jobs.

At the right price crawfish farmers will get more workers.

Haven't you heard? Supply and demand economics doesn't work in the crawfish world. Their only choice is illegal labor from 3rd world countries.

They have a huge market in Texas now that will pay.

I bet it’s starting to get hard to sell local because you feel like you are losing money.
