That's how I understand it (in Georgia).

Thus my comment "You must have fricked up".

Go to Family Court in Georgia as the male and see how it works out for you.

My daughter's mom was as unfit as a mother could be. Her mom and sister were on my side in court. Georgia couldn't give a frick less. What a corrupt state.

just out of college - yes. Apartment/car payment, insurance, catting around chasing women got expensive.

Once married, two paychecks and have never looked back.

I was for a bit after divorce. It was bad. I'd have to have one of my girlfriends to loan me money just to be able to get a haircut.

I wouldn't sell my 2 small businesses no matter what.

Now I'm doing great. Years later sold the businesses and made some fortunate rally estate investments.

Worked a 50 hour week at $1.25 per hour. Lived in a two room garage apartment that rented for $35.00 per month.
Walked to work because I couldn't afford gas and repairs for the 49 ford that was always "Found On Road Dead".
When the baby was due we stretched ourselves and moved to a 1 bedroom duplex for $70.00 per month.
Utilities and Insurance etc. were eating us alive.
Ate pancakes for three meals a day some times because the milk bill didn't come until the first of next month and the neighborhood grocer felt sorry for us and let us charge the pancake flour and eggs until next payday.
Chicken hearts and livers were $0.15 to $0.20 per pound and they made excellent gravy for pancakes or potatoes.
Yes, we were eligible for assistance, but we had our pride and no way in hades would we bend that low.

From age 18-26 I was paycheck to paycheck. Especially in the 21-23 range at the end of college, I used to go to bed hungry a lot more than was healthy. But didn't care because had sex.

From what I've been told, students in high school aren't taught anything about consumer math, paying interest, debt, etc.

If students were taught about this it would help reduce the number of students that fall prey to the credit card companies that setup booths in university SUBs.

Definitely, right before I joined the army 21 years ago. Gas tank perpetually a tick from E. Eating hamburger helper every night. Getting the electricity cut off, you name it.

I think it's a valuable experience as long as you learn lessons and eventually take steps to increase your earning power.

It's the opposite of getting a lot of money at once like pro athletes. You're far more disciplined in managing finances if you slowly increase your earning power over time.

Was still able to take kids to Disney every other year and also on weekend trips here and there. Less eating out and more cooking at home. Didn’t own the latest I-phone every year. Drove a 10 year old car but ex wife always had a new car every 4 years or so It’s was mostly learning what was needed over what was desired

I live like this but I’m not anywhere near living paycheck to paycheck. I like knowing that I could not have a job for 5 years and live my same lifestyle. Security over splurging.

I remember once finding an ATM for my bank that you could do a minimal $5 withdrawal and thought it was such a blessing at the time.
