Effective means of punishment. I have two kids; the girl isn't old enough to know any better yet and the boy has never done anything to warrant a spanking. He has had a few timeouts, but not because he ever did anything bad, but because doesn't listen.

Yes. Less than four times until my last spanking at age 11. I deserved them all. My dad would schedule the spanking and never once spanked in the heat of he moment. It did not make me necessarily fear him. The effect on me was that I felt bad that I dis-appointed him so much that he spanked me. Timeouts can be affective but it really depends on the kid and become useless after a kid is 5 or 6. More affective on toddlers and 4-5 year olds. Older kids need privileges/ things taken away or a spanking.

No, my parents didn't abuse me. I wasn't a bad kid, so I wouldn't have deserved it anyway.

Meh, I appreciate it now that I look back on it. Definitely did not repeat offenses very often, and afterwards they'd explain why very thoroughly I was punished.

What in the frick is a timeout supposed to do except for contribute to fat kids getting fatter? "Go to your room and play with your Xbox 360/watch TV".
The only legit timeout is on the knees on rice on the corner of a brick floor with your nose against the wall. Anything else and you get the entitled and irresponsible little douchebags we have now as teenagers.

time outs are for pansy parenting. look them in the eye when correcting and use the wooden spoon when needed.

Yes. And my brothers and I got whipped with the first thing my mom could get her hands on, which were as follows(but not limited to)...belts, hair brushes, whiffle ball bats, sticks, razor straps, etc.
The worst was my dad, who for point of reference, played defensive line for Louisiana Tech, used to make us pull our pants down and bend over the bed butt-naked and whip us with a belt. That shite hurt.

Yep. At home mainly with a belt.
At school, usually a wodden paddle, or I had one coach that would make you take you own belt off so he could use it.
I grew up fine and respectful. Kids these days need this type of discipline again. frick all this "positive reinforcement" bull shite.

I was a hyperactive kid so I much prefered a whipping over timeout. Didn't tell my parents though of course

Yes. Belt, belt buckle when I got too big, occasional switch/stick I had to go pick myself out of the yard. My mom hit me with a plastic vacuum cleaner extension once.
