Her dad left when she was in kindergarten in the late 40’s.

She’s a strong amazing lady.

She grew up in the 50-60’s in Algiers, LA
Above a grocery store with her mom and grandmother

She’s a god fearing person.

She just is curious.

Have any of y’all ever been curious?

I've never done it personally but I know of two people who did that are related to each other.
but the results contradict each other.

one, a guy found out his dad wasn't his biological father, so him and his brother were actually only half brothers.

the other is a grandson of the "half brother" but according to his results those two half brothers are actually full brothers and descendants of same man that allegedly wasn't the biological father of one of them.

Right.

My mom does not give a rip about her mother’s chastity.

I think when you’re 81 and you’re mortality is ever present.

You would just like to know

“Hey…do I have different father than my siblings?”

I think people are over thinking the question

If your mom and her neices/nephews (your cousins) both test, you will be able to tell if her siblings were full or half by how many centimorgans of DNA she shares with the other person testing. Services such as Ancestry.com test only 7000 out of millions of DNA segments so the shared results start with this number. A child will share about 3500 with each parent. A grand child about 1700... it halves with each generation) The services will give you an approximate relationship estimate as well.

A first cousin will show up as about an 800CM match. A half first cousin 400'sh. The exact numbers will vary but, again, most services will do the work for you and list the possible relationship between the two samples.

I recommend Ancestry.com. They do the best job linking your DNA into family trees that are already on the website.

footnote: My mom was adopted, and I spent 5 years on all of the sites to find out her biological parents as her adoption records were permanently sealed in the 1940's. This was before Ancestry did the work for you. I probably could have done it in a few days now.

EDIT: additionally, you will be able to see other DNA matches that might have some surprising information in there, so you have to ask yourself if you are prepared to know the truth.

You can start off by doing it yourselves and see if there’s hits. It’s possible they have done it themselves or someone else so you don’t even need to ask them.

But sure asking and everyone doing it would make it more accurate.

As said, be careful what you wish for. I don’t see any issue helping your mom here if she has no insecurities.

If she and your cousins take the Ancestry DNA test, there's an option to view possible family members based on what percentage DNA you share.

She could just take it and see if any of her cousins that she knows on her dad's side show up, or his last name shows up at all. Or if the milk man's last name shows up a bunch.

This is an awful idea that I would strongly encourage you not to do.

But... I'm 100% here for the results.

Let the dead rest. Should have gotten this done when they were alive and able to agree willfully.

So is your Mom wanting to know if she has other family? Is so I’d do the Ancestry DNA and she may be able to find some connections.

The future MIL did this a couple years ago (she knew her Mom had other children out of wedlock that she didn’t grow up with) and ended up finding 4 half siblings. They get together once every few weeks for lunch. It’s been good for her.

Be careful.

I took a DNA test just for kicks and found out that I'm part Black.

Absolutely this. Tell your mother you are working on it every time she asks and hope she forgets.
