That's good I guess.
why on earth would you buy a new vehicle right now though? They are outrageously expensive.

We were going to do this, but it was too much work. One account has worked out fine.

was ready for a new one, was happy with the price, surprisingly, they negotiated quite a bit, I was prepared for little to no negotiating

I agree. I never understood having separate accounts. Just communicate with your significant other. Thats what we do. We spend money and if we are making a big purchase then we talk about it. I have seen couples that have separate accounts where the wife is struggling to pay for food and the husband doesn't care because he has his money. Blew my mind
They are married on paper only. Not what a marriage actually should be though, it’s putting your money and the love of it above your spouse and your love for them which is nuts.

Yes, it was the best decision for me.

Yes...we each have separate and have a joint that we both contribute to. I don't give a shite when she buys stupid redundant decorations for the house, and she doesn't care when I buy my millionth bottle of bourbon.... but also we have a really nice joint account and at the end of the day are both responsible. It works for us

Joint accounts for bills, savings / investments.
Here's our situation:
- She and I don't like to shop and don't spend frivolously.
- We have conversations about big purchases
- We never argue about purchases or spending
- We rarely argue about anything however
My Dad gave my Mom money to go shopping with. She would spend every penny. He controlled all their accounts.
It all depends on what you are comfortable with. No wrong answer.
Here's a question for you all w separate accounts: do you split driving duties equally?

Pretty much what we do. Savings and retirement accounts are joint, we share our main credit cards, and we keep our own checking accounts we had before being married.
How do people with joint everything buy gifts for your wives without them seeing you spent $X at Anthropology?

We have separate accounts at home. Her account usually pays for vacations and nice big purchases. Mine just covers our day to day expenses and bills.

Cannot fathom marrying someone and not trusting them enough for a joint/access to all accounts.
That's wild.
That's wild.

We tried a joint account for bills at one point and we sucked at it.
I believe you, but how do you suck at having a joint account for bills? Having two people monitoring bills from one account versus separate accounts seems less likely for a screw up. We keep it simple and have one person handle bill paying.

Why would that be a trust issue? I would say having to have access to all of your spouse's accounts is more of a trust issue. You don't trust your spouse enough to have her own account?

Read what I said, I never said they cannot have thier own account. It's restricting access/hiding something from each other is the trust issue.
She has her accounts, I have mine. We have access to both if we need to move money, pay bills etc.

That only makes sense in the beginning. Long term, it's just easier having all of the money in the same set of accounts. I try to never go to a bank in person, having the same accounts within the same bank ensures that I don't have to.
We have one loan that I pay a few days late every month because the only way to pay online on time is by having a bank account with with them. I can go to that bank physically to pay on time, but it doesn't affect anything to pay from my bank a few days late.

Just silly, rerouting money into another account for the same purpose of paying bills…. Different salaries/contributions, different pay dates. It was annoying trying to keep up with the balance of another account. I make more so I just pay almost all of the bills on autopay from my account, nothing to stress about.
