I don't need their kids to judge people.

I judge your dad for not pulling out

Are you a helicopter parent of your own kids and force them to dress, walk, talk, and act just like you?
I had the philosophy, If I am paying for their food, clothes, and Shelter, they are going to act and dress with some dignity. I damn sure not going to pay for tatoos and body piercings.
When they move out and support themselves, Great! But don't come back to me for bailouts.
Both my sons worked at Burger Joints once they reached age 16. They both got degrees, EE and CS, paid for by me. They both have been employed as soon as they graduated. They both love and respect their parents.
You do it your way.
I grew up in a Cotton Patch in North Louisiana, hoeing and picking cotton.

Purple hair weird? My daughter and her cousin wore purple spiked hair into Tiger Stadium for games. (Now if it was red I might be judgmental.)
Eyebrow piercing a big deal? Knew a girl who wanted a septum piercing and so did it herself, in elementary school.
Y'all live some sheltered lives to be concerned about these examples. Come back when you know someone's kids under legit psychiatric care.

To a certain extent, especially if they are criminals.

One of our vendors seems pretty normal but has a daughter with purple hair and an eyebrow piercing.
Probably both psychiatric and recreational. 100% she is on SSRIs, smokes weed, and gives a subpar BJ if a guy in skinny jeans buys her enough craft beers.

Not without knowing the circumstances.

Not so much for weird kids. I do judge them for having kids who steal, drive drunk, rob folks at gunpoint, etc
Posted on 7/17/23 at 5:34 pm to Jim Rockford
Depending on the weirdness, yes. If it’s something that can obviously be fixed by parenting, then yes.
Posted on 7/17/23 at 5:36 pm to Jim Rockford
Absolutely.
The vast majority of freak kids are due to bad or negligent parenting.

The catch 22 of psychiatric care is if you're f&%ked up enough to really need it, then you probably will struggle to hold down jobs long enough to be able to afford it as an adult. On the flip side, getting proper psychiatric care as a juvenile can help people learn how to properly medicate and/or mitigate their mental illnesses so that they can be functional enough to have productive careers.
Trust me, the problem folks in our society aren't the ones who are actually getting proper psychiatric care, but the ones who need it and can't get it.

No. To some extent, all kids are weird.

purple hair
Probably just a phase. Purple hair isn't actually going to hurt the kid. My niece had a purple streak in her hair one summer. She thought it was cool and she got to make the decision. She had to have it bleached out before school started because it's against her school dress code.
