I feel like this sued to be much more of an issue with older fabric types and coloring/dyeing technologies. Not so much anymore.

I've been trying to do them all together, but the colors just keep complaining and trying to segregate themselves.

I separate them. Mainly because I try not to wash really big loads for various reasons, and separating whites/colors helps with that. I know you can wash most things together, but I just don't.

Wife (no pics) separates whites from colors, especially sheets and towels. Probably something that was just passed on from her mom.

Why would you only wash in cold? That's even more psycho than not separating your loads.

depends on fabric, not color

dri-fit / moisture wicking synthetic materials... (golf polos, underwear, socks, wife (no pigs) lululemon shid, etc.) get one load

cottons get one load

towels / sheets (white) get one load w/ bleach.

if washing towels / sheets, I'll toss in the few white shirts I got in there as well.

Of course. I wash whites and colored clothes separately. I have always done it that way and don't see any reason to change. I normally use bleach on whites which would ruin colored clothing.

I thought that ended in 1954 with Brown v. Board of Education...

I’ve always wanted to open a laundry/dry cleaning business and put signs out front that say “whites only” …

That is about the only time to separate colors, is when you are using bleach.

Otherwise your colors will fade and some will have bleach spots on them.

That is why some people will use hyrdrogen peroxide crystals instead of bleach. For sanitation and less chance of fading or colors running.

Yes. I’ll also typically separate reds from everything else.

When I was a teenager my work shirts were red (and cheap) and I made the mistake of washing them with some white and yellow clothes. Bled all over everything.
