Salaried. 7-3. Doesn’t matter when and how long I take my breaks.

Same, but that also means nobody is going to GAF if I’m working at 8PM to meet some goofy deadline.

Not sure why hourly pay is looked down upon so much?

Just like a salary its the rate that matters. Tons of hourly roles that come with full benefits, PTO etc.

i didnt mean it as looking down on it

in the end we are all paid hourly, point was I dont have to punch a clock

in general I work roughly 35 hours per week..I am paid a salary.....My company is perfectly fine with that...but if something comes up that makes me work 70 hours or even 84 hours that week...I would be expected to handle it. that is rare

i just meant it as...my company doesnt look at the clock or watch gate logs of its salary people.

Not that working by the hour is bad.

My last 2 sales jobs have been fully remote on a computer making calls/sending emails all day. They paid hourly ($35/40 an hour plus commissions) so yes, I punch a clock. It’s not a big deal to me. I also have 3 college degrees and make $100K+.

I don’t take a lunch break even though I’m supposed to do so. I work 8-4 typically straight through and spend 5-10 minutes eating between calls.

I've actually done a bit of research in the last year or two to sate my curiosity, and moving away from considering lunch to be part of the work day is fairly modern. Eight hour "shifts" were the norm until fairly recently, and you'll hear people referring to desk jobs euphemistically as "working a 9 to 5". "Giving" employees an hour for lunch but requiring them to work a nine hour day is one of the more oddly pernicious things I've noticed about the modern work paradigm.

It’s just part of the overall screwing of the American worker, turning people into a disposable commodity. You can throw in the move from pensions to 401Ks with this too.

Eta- I am paid by the job so it is up to me when I work. I tend to work a standard 8 hour day.

What's blown my mind is that, unlike your other examples, no one seems to have noticed this.

When people at that previous job would talk about how long the day felt and I would respond "yeah, a nine hour day is tough and can drag", they would always look at me like I was insane, saying that we worked an eight hour day. I would say that's technically true, but only if lunch is unpaid. I would then have them start at 8am and count out the hours to 5pm on their fingers. The look of realization was always fun
