I'm sorry. It's good you were with Mikie til the end.
dude been by my side for a long time.
couldn’t let him be alone at his worst moment.
i think he knew it was time.
gave me his smile while ride to the clinic.
when we carried him and laid him in that table, he just looked done.
he was tired of fighting it.
laid there nice and calm looked up at me and sighed.
gave the vet the go ahead.

Worst part of owning a dog. Thanks for sharing with strangers on the internet. For the life of me, I’ll never understand why you baws like to tell others about this.

Sounds like a really good end to a long healthy life
I'm tearing up for you. It sucks but it's worth it because dogs are awesome.

I’ve had to put down several dogs in my years and you’ll blame yourself, second guess if it was too soon or could you have done anything different, etc. Eventually you’ll learn to forgive yourself and realize you gave your friend a solid 12 years on this earth.

I'm sorry and understand. I did too. It's a rough couple of days and hope you're good.

A bunch of us have been there and feel your pain.
Sorry to hear of your loss. Mike looked like a real good boy. Enjoy the memories and know you gave him a great life.
God bless.

I did the same thing when I had to put my two labs to rest. They are not just dogs or pets. For 12 years he was family. Tail wagging through good times and bad. It was not his worst moment, because he had you there by his side.

Take comfort knowing you gave her a great life

His aged face is a heart breaker.

Been there 3 times holding each one as they passed. Now have another that's about 13 now and feel she is starting to slowly decline. She is pure love and this may be the hardest one to let go of but i would never let them die with strangers. It never gets easy but figure i will probably die with one sitting on my lap since i have had a dog pretty much my whole life.

wish dogs lived longer for sure.

I'm so sorry to hear that...dogs are family members too.
When I lost my last dog, this quote provided a lot of comfort. Hopefully it does the same for you:
“There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who choose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings and walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible. Only we know how small a price we pay for what we receive; our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given.” - Suzanne Clothier

Really sorry.
The loss of the pure love a good dog is a grief of its own and inexplicable to those who have never felt it.
As bad as you feel, it is actually a testament that ol' Mikie had a good owner and life.
God Bless a world where you two got matched up and may there alway be dog owners like the baws on this board.

Mikie couldn’t have wished for a better friend and home. He lived a great life with you, knew he was loved, and he no longer has to feel any pain.

unfortunately, it was time.
It sucks but you were selfless and did the best thing you could for him. There gets to be a point to where you're just keeping him alive for your sake when it isn't best for him. Sorry for your loss. Good dogs never live long enough.

There's nothing like a great dog. Lost my 14 year old GSD a few weeks ago. RIP Mike and pain free.

he knew he was my dog from the very beginning.
actually got him from a Craigslist ad.
met the person in Walmart Parking lot in Broussard.
he got out her car took a couple steps, looked back at her and then just came over and climbed in mine and looked at me like “where we going?”
last week made 12 years since that day.
he’s been my sidekick ever since.
he got too old to jump in the truck, so not many rides any more.
then he got too old to jump onto the couch with me.
but he still didn’t go to bed until i did every night. and his bed was on floor on my side of the bed.
when i would get home from work he always found a “gift” to bring me. either a toy, a bone, or a stick he found in the yard.

Dogs spend their whole lives learning how to love us.
We spend our whole lives missing them.
It’s brutal.
Sorry for your loss
