Ironically enough, the last time I went to renew my CC permit... I finished my shooting at the range then swung by a music shop in downtown LR to look at a violin for my wife. Was sitting on the side of the road, parked, in the middle of the day (probably 11:30 a.m.), outside of the violin place when this strapping young didndonuffin proud high school graduate (I assume) walked up to the work truck parked in front of me trying to pull on the door and looking in the back for stuff to steal. They were doing some minor construction on the building there. He turns and starts walking towards my truck and I can see the outline of a pistol in his hoodie pocket. Walked right past the driver's side door of my truck. I was afraid he was about to try and carjack me.
Luckily he just kept going. I quickly threw the truck in gear and took off. Called the violin shop to let them know he was hanging around and trying to get into the work truck outside so they could call the cops and pull any footage. But I really thought I was going to have to use the XDM there for a moment.

I have paranoia and my dog likes to occasionally bark at nothing. Therefor I find myself clearing my house (every closet, curtain, and under every bed) at least once a month.

I did one time.
I used to work off Corporate in BR. I would cut around Acadian when the traffic on I-10 was bad. During Covid I stopped to get gas’s at the shell next to TJ ribs. I finished pumping gas gas and was on the phone with an employee.
Went to get in my truck and as I was shutting my door a white guy grabbed my left arm and tried to pull me out of my truck. I threw my phone down and grabbed my G19 that was in a mag mount under my steering wheel. I literally put the gun to the guys forehead and yelled I’m gonna blow you fricking brains out. He backed up for a minute allowing me to shut my door. He started throwing rocks at my truck. I pull away from him and called 911. They said it would be 10 minutes before anyone could get there. I gave them a description of the dude and drove off. He didn’t have a shirt on and looked homeless and in drugs. I came a nanosecond from pulling the trigger.
I never use the phone at gas stations any longer. I keep my head in a swivel.

Same.
When I was a 12, my mom sent me outside to deal with an angry possum in our trash can. A hand gun would have been nicer to have than the stupid shovel I was using

Yep, attempted break in when I lived in a Detroit suburb (supposedly a "safe" one). Doggo alarm ran them off, but I was glad I had the tin in my hand.

Downrange, yes. However, in the decades I have been an adult I have never needed one. Despite having a CC permit since way before they were cool and not so easy to get I have never once carried a loaded weapon except when shooting. I am an extremely minimal EDC carry person and to me a gun is a PITA to bother with so I still bank on my lifestyle and situational awareness.

Not 100% sure it was needed but twice I was damn glad to have it in my hand.

Driving south of Philly on i-95, minding my own business driving my semi in the right lane. Van comes down the ramp to merge, doesn't have much room to merge, winds up right alongside me. He has to slam the brakes because I can't merge left to let him in. He comes up alongside me to the left, flips me off, floors it, cuts me off, starts brake checking me. He winds up stopping in the middle of the road and gets out with a baseball bat. He walks to the back of the van and sees me with a .40 in my hand. He politely turns around and runs back to his van and takes off.

Yup, and you don't get to decide when you need it.
Sometimes you are forced to use it but every time a person uses a gun, it’s that person’s decision.

I have never needed mine, but a buddy pulled his in New Orleans and it saved us from being robbed, shot, or both.

You don't need it until you do.

Have carried for over 15 years, never had to pull it (because if I do, I know I am shooting someone).

Every time i run up on some hogs or a rattlesnake i need it.
In general, i've never NEEDED it, but have been happy to have one a few times just in case things went sideways.

Hand Guns - Have You Ever Needed Yours?
Nope and hope I never do..
Though a few years ago we did have a very unsavory looking character approach our front door setting off my camera and alerting my dog... I woke up to a camera view of this guy just standing at the front porch staring at the front door.. I did grab my AR and slowly make my way to a position that would allow me to unload had he decided to kick in the front door... and as we started to call the cops he just walked away from the door.. weirdest experience ever.. I did give a pic to LEO and they did end up stopping a guy that fit the description walking around.. Told him to never venture back into the neighborhood . I know CSB
