we never get here without it.
I cannot believe people are still 'questioning' this anymore. Ask yourself this, has social media done anything to help us socially?
How did you feel about your fellow American before and after?
its been put in your hands (for free) for a reason.

It’s given these super small minorities the mind set that their voice must be heard, and these echo chamber websites make them believe there are more of them than they are and that they are right.
This and the unintended consequence of the anti bullying movement has lead to a lot of these mentally ill adults who never had their asses kicked as kids. Previously if a boy said he was a girl he was isolated, mocked and beat up. He then was like well fricking can’t actually act like this I need to get my shite together bc no one agrees with me.

Look at pre social media USA. What was different? The news media was still there. We still had the 24 hour news cycle. Social media is the main difference. News media have learned how to feed into it to push their narratives and we’re too fricking retarded as a society to not let them.
Yep. Social media allows people to say things they wouldn’t say to a person's face. It’s creates an argumentative “I’m right and you’re wrong” culture instead of “I’m trying to convince you of something” culture.
It sucks. It is the devil.

People weren’t meant to have so much access to information that has nothing to do with their day-to-day lives. It’s created this environment where people feel the need to have an opinion about everything. It’s destroyed people’s ability to be happy and content with who they are and where they are and what they have.

How is this any different than the right wing media calling everyone on the left Communists?
I don't know how about we stop creating enemies of anyone that has a different opinion than the ones we have.

The internet in general is responsible for that.
Even before social media any retard with a computer could spew stupidity via blogs and chat rooms....

Appreciate you making the thread, op.
With all the fricked up shite being said and happening across the globe these days, reading these comments gives me hope that people are catching on. This shite is poison. Don’t just say it here, talk to your friends and relatives about it. If you’ve quit social media, tell people how much better you feel mentally. People aren’t happy…offering such a countering perspective, just a little nudge, may help some folks find more peace in their lives.

Social Media amplifies everything. It has become a place where fringe ideas can be thrust into the limelight and gain traction because people who seek out engagement can put any crazy idea out there and get a response.

I almost feel like there will be pushes to force change in social media sooner rather than later. The rewiring of human brains based on the reponse of media, the dopamine release of posting and getting a like, and the islotation is creates has caused the mental problems we cite. Seems like we are doing this now with children, but even adult brains are being rewired, and rarely for the better.

Social Media just gives everybody an opportunity to show you who they really are.

Social media escalates our problems into a ridiculous state. It is mob rule and we won't be able to escape it but if you can eliminate most of it, the better off you'll be.
It is simply a channel that people can be semi-anonymous and air out their frustration.
Adding to that, it's an avenue for everyone to post their best moments trying to outdo someone else's best moment. "Oh that's a wonderful pic of you...but LOOK AT ME!!!

In my opinion, very much .
All sides, especially on the extremes, cherry pick bad stuff about the other side to post. Not to mention the loonies from all sides who will edit or cut off videos to leave out context.

Except it isnt even possible to tell who is real and who isnt.
You can go through entire facebook threads full of AI with pictures that either are or look like real people.
There are even bots from other countries that only exist to stoke the flames.

IMO social media is a net negative.
What is the benefits of social media? If you are talking about facebook, there are people who use it to keep in touch with friends and family. Allows them to share pictures, etc. I don't use FB, but it also seems like it has become a cluster.
Instagram is obviously for sharing pictures that are not as family friendly as FB.. I guess. IMO I think IG is the most entertaining.. And people are able to monetize it, but it also allows people to spread false information and people comment and it feeds this cesspool of people who hang on to everything they read.
Twitter/x is the absolute worst. I was able to see Charlie Kirk get assassinated last night, which was the only place it was able to be seen and I wasn't even looking for it.
Twitter is designed to supposedly allow every user to monetize their account. People pay, get the blue check and then they just have to post things that will get retweeted to bring more views to what they tweeted. There are people who are on their just tweeting things about whatever topic is hot. They talk about whatever is trending so that when people look at trending topics they will hopefully come across that person's account.
It was a good platform at one point, before the people who created it decided to politicalize it. It was a good platform if you were a sports fan (and it still is to some degree which is what I mostly use it for). Twitter is the worst and I would say it is a good representation or have maybe been the most influential in us being where this country is when it comes to broken politics.
But absolutely social media is a big part of what drives the political madness. If it was all removed, I think it would only take a few months for a huge social shift. People would have more in person communication. There would be less socially awkward people, which I think more people have become. Maybe that would give more people more empathy and you wouldn't have people out looking for opportunity to get content. Everything would be as manufactured as it has become. People would be less hostile towards each other.
