Starting to see more of the counties inland go to tropical storm warnings and counties like Wake(Raleigh)already closing public schools the rest of the week.

That pic reminds me of Southshore Harbor after Katrina.
most of abaco, great guana and grand bahama looks like that. once the humanitarian work is under control (weeks), the cleanup is going to be a massive undertaking
all that debris will have to be removed from the islands

Bruh, they got a hell of a lot worse then Cat 3 in Rutherford and Panama City proper. Given a lot of it was run down and old, but there’s still businesses like multiple Burger Kings shut down.
So, there were some positive outcomes from Michael.

Current forecast for Charleston Harbor. This is higher than both Irma and Matthew. It is forecast assuming the NHC path, so any western deviations would see the level a little higher still. All the Charleston posters should keep a close eye on the forecast and readings from this gauge.
Fortunately, my house is at an elevation of about 35 feet.

Not sure if this mess will make it inland or not, but radar offshore looks nasty.

Is there much of a chance that the resorts in Hilton Head Island will get flooded by the surge?

Poor Charleston, SC. The storm surge is going to be brutal because this sucker is pushing more water than is typical for a Cat 2.
Reminds me of Ike. Hit Galveston as a Cat. 2, but storm surge was estimated to be equivalent to a Cat. 4.

Still calm here in the Coastal Empire. Whiskey and good jams

Looks like the governor in SC made the right call with the evacuations.

That's horrible for Charleston. Hoping that's the worst case scenario. Looks like my wife's family on the Georgia coast (Brunswick) and around Ponte Vedra, FL. dodged a bullet this time.
Just received an alert from Glynn Co. Georgia that they've had some tropical storm force winds, some power outages and tree limbs down, but no word of any major flooding. Sister in law said they weren't even getting any steady rain until just the last few hours.

Glad I took the option of using vacation time and leaving rather than staying at the VA in downtown Charleston for the duration of the storm. On the above map, it is now an island just off the Ashley River.

It’s going to be almost impossible. Where are they going to take all the rubble? They’re not going to bring it to the US. They’re going to have to create landfills on the island.
They’re going to need equipment, and housing. Who’s going to send equipment over there in the middle of Hurricane season.
It’ll be months before they even start cleaning up. I assume they will get a cruise ship or two and some navy ships to house first responders, but who the hell is going to pay for all that.
This is going to be a bad situation that gonna get worse.
fricking Puerto Rico is a US territory and look at that shitshow a year later.

Getting some FL winds pushing 110 kts.
Radar shows a full ring of showers around the eye. Expecting a slow pressure fall from here. Dorian is getting better organized.
Looking at the water vapor, the little trough sliding into Virgina providing a very healthy outflow channel too.

I sure hope those people listened to their local officials, NHC and TWC and didn’t let their guards down.

To be fair, that's 100% PRs fault, not ours
