Welcome to the club, it sucks.

If anyone experiences this routinely, think about holding your breath and you’ll break that state and wake up

I have never experienced it because I am a stomach sleeper

But your mind finds ways to hallucinate anyway. I have had auditory hallucinations associated with exploding head syndrome. They say the two are related but I have never experienced paralysis with EHS

When I was in my late teens it would happen often. Always the same presence would attack me. I knew the time, where I was, a totally conscious state but unable to wake myself. Every episode, which lasted for months would get more intense. Anger and a lot of prayer helped me. Good luck, it could just be a one time thing for you.

Anybody ever have it where they think they are awake (but still asleep)? It’s like a lucid dream. Sometimes I think I’m awake, but I can’t move. I’m trying to throw myself on the floor, roll over, anything to wake myself up, but I can’t.

I used to get it after long bouts of insomnia. I had the feeling of someone sitting on my chest, I would try to move or scream and nothing would happen.

It was years before I knew what it was and it scared the hell out of me. I haven't had it in a while and hoping that shite never comes back.

I had it the first time about 13 years ago during a crazy storm, sleeping in my "basement" (it's really not below grade except first foot or so, but on ground level).

It was a whole-being sensation. I didn't really see or hear or feel anything specific, but all of those senses were hyper-engaged.

I heard what could've been thunder but it was much more overwhelming.

I'm not sure if my eyes were open, but a saw bright lights and extreme darkness intertwined.

And then the main feature--the telltale heavy weight on my chest and inability to move at all. It was like an evenly distributed lead blanket covered my entire body.

Not a dream. Scariest shite I've ever experienced.

quote:

Some experts argue that what humans perceive as an experience with a sexual demon is actually part of sleep paralysis. The inability to move and the sensation of being touched often go hand in hand. However, more and more people are claiming that their experiences with succubi and/or incubi are real. One man writing about his experience even mentions a feeling of paralysis all over his body. He attributes it to the succubus that was hovering over him. She began kissing and fondling him. He wrote that, while he definitely enjoyed what she was doing, he remained terrified. He was completely in her grip and could not move. Their sexual encounter continued, and he became rapt with ecstasies he'd never imagined. When it was over, she continued to hover over him, smiling. She asked him if he knew what succubi do and what they are for. Before he could reply, her face turned demonic red and her beautiful teeth became fangs. She laughingly told him that succubi take the souls of their victims and that he would be dead within three days. Then she disappeared. Apparently the man survived at least long enough to write of his encounter and post it online.

The helpless feeling of wanting to scream but not being able to is freaky as hell. It’s only happened to me twice but I remember it as if I were awake. Almost if it actually happened and wasn’t a dream if that makes sense.

Define "real".

---Wow, they've been pondering that since Plato vs. Aristotle.

A friend of mine dreamed that a helicopter was hovering over him, trying to kill him, so in his dream he shot at it.

No lie, the next morning he woke up to find that he had shot his ceiling fan in the middle of the night. Now he keeps his bedside gun in a different spot.
