Why is paper down? Environmental regs? Foreign competition? Outdated equipment? Labor costs out of control?

Power and steam? Pretty much any large plant in the area needs those two things. Start applying!

How many letters do you write? When did you last buy a newspaper?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I think the copy paper side of Port Hudson shut down partly due to decline in demand. We just don't use near as much as we once did.

I think they kept the paper towels/toilet paper side open.

I've got a couple of co-workers here in Port Hudson, and both worked in the powerhouse. Exxon in Baton Rouge just hired both of them.
I don't know if you'd be willing to relocate? But with that kind of work experience, you should have little trouble finding a good job.

That sucks bro. I suggest finding. Free resume template on line and filling it out. Also look into any free lessons you can find for free on how to structure a resume.

And once you’re done writing it, let the most professional person you know look it over

Typical liberal douche Beijing politics is into a non political thread. Mills have been closing for years. It’s part of technology and the digitization of the world and needing less and less paper products

Do you mind saying what kind of severance they offered? Did they try to place you somewhere else? I’m a power and steam operator and we are hoping they help us with other places in GP or thru other companies. Who knows tho, we aren’t really counting on them at this point.

Well, I was working in the Tissue Converting Department and didn't get laid off.
So many workers here either took the package or retired that most everyone that wanted to stay that had any amount of seniority were able to stay.
I don't remember exactly what the severance was, but I think it was a months pay for each year of service, but topped at 15 years.

How many plants are in the area around you? Being in the utilities means you have significant cross over skills

Meh...I think it’s more just a sign of the digital times. Environmental wacko’s have been around forever.

And good luck Hogs. Work is out there just have to go find it.
