Amen. He’s doing the Lord’s work, support him.

My dad says whatever pops in his head and also wears some crazy shite these days. His typical dress is a Hawaiian shirt, cargo shorts, some kind of crazy socks and hiking boots.

Sorry I'm embarassing you, son.

Your dad sounds unhappy. Probably something or things he regrets and never worked through it. I’d set boundaries. Stand up to him and don’t let him be “the boss.”

I agree with this. I have tried to set boundaries with him but he has a hot temper and every time we can discuss it, it turns into him getting way too pissed off so I just swallow my pride now. This causes me to not want him around even more. I enjoy our time outside the office and when he’s not talking shop, but it’s really all he knows/talks about.

Oddly enough, mine was curmudgeonly as a young/middle-aged father and has become gradually more laid-back and easygoing as he has aged. By the time he hits 75, I'm expecting him to be eating mushrooms and dancing at festivals. Significant change from the big, scary man who would whoop my arse for getting a B.

My dad is mellow af in his 70s. I'm pretty sure if his house caught on fire his reaction would be "well, that sucks".

The only exception is traffic.

I'll be talking to him on his way home from work.

"Hey son, what's good?"
"Not much, pop. How's (X topic)?"
"Oh, you know, (Y generic answer)"
"Good to hear. How about that Bama game last weekend?"
"Defense looked a little shaky, but I liked what I saw from - GOD frickING DAMNIT YOU IGNORANT a-hole USE YOUR GODDAMN TURN SIGNAL FOR ONCE IN YOUR SHITSTAIN OF EXISTENCE - ...Jones looked solid as always."

If you let me know, please tell me. My daily convo with my 70-something father is usually full of complaints. Whether it's slow people at the store or certain commercials that piss him off. Someone make it stop. This is new within the last few years.

My dad's is technology. All he has is a flip phone and a laptop but I tried to talk him through getting a new laptop connected to the internet and that's the first time I've heard him raise his voice or drop a f bomb in 20+ years.

But lately he seems to be overenjoying one of the key perks of old age: saying what is on his mind and not caring what people think.

He has a temper cause he knows you’ll capitulate your his tantrums and give him whatever he wants. Call him out on his BS, don’t give in to his childish behavior, and he will quit.

At least he isn’t hospitalized and constantly dropping the N bomb on the nurses and staff like mine was. I apologized to them all repeatedly but they assured me they hear it all the time from old men with cognitive decline and just shrug it off. Still embarrassing as hell.

Yup.

He rides his bike in front of some Crack shacks every day. A dog of peace tried to get after em when he rode by. He called the cops and then waited so he could mean mug the folks while the cop wrote the ticket. Great, now they know who you are.

Send him the link to the Politard board.

That should help calm him down.

Man, this is the truth. I’m 58 and the reality that your options are limited by your age and energy sneaks up fast. Also, I don’t adjust to new customs so well anymore. And when things change it’s easy to become irascible if you lose perspective.
