Even people who hate Louisiana gotta agree that the food sucks everywhere else.

You’ve talked about moving away on this very site for years now.

We've got a kid that's a JR in HS. My FIL died last year so my MIL is in another state living alone. I have a parent in LA that's dying of cancer.

It's complicated for us at the moment. Normal middle-aged life stuff I guess.

I ventured up North a couple times. It sucked and is too cold. Everything is bland and the people talk funny.

No, not weird at all. I also love Louisiana. Headed to Lafayette to see my kinfolk on Friday for a long weekend. I am very much looking forward to it.

It’s weird that people try to act like they are better because they want to shite on Louisiana. It’s in only on TD. Talk to people who moved in person and they tell you how they still love LA.

I was born and raised in south Louisiana and went to LSU. After I graduated from LSU, was very project focused in my career. I was able to live and work for extended periods in a bunch of different places - Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Arizona, Pennsylvania Illinois, Michigan, Oklahoma, California, Minnesota etc. Even outside the US in Canada and Turkey. In 10 years after leaving Louisiana - I had moved across the country several times, gotten several awesome promotions, and had become a leader in my field. We had bought and sold several houses and were getting very tired of moving. My wife's career had also taken off and it was time for us to find a place to really settle down.

When we had our first child (also when Covid restrictions were raging in Chicago), we started looking very seriously to moving back to the gulf coast and building our forever home. We moved back to south Louisiana summer of 2022. It was the perfect situation for us, and we don't regret it at all. My wife and I are both much happier here. We absolutely love it, and we are also closer to family as a bonus. My wife is from a huge northern suburb - and she readily admits that she has never felt a sense of community like she does here.

I don't fault people for moving away. I understand why people would do that especially when they are trying to start their careers. We should all appreciate how easy it is to be set up for a good life in south Louisiana with the amazing culture, incredible food, friendly people, solid job market for a lot of fields, and very low costs of living. It's not perfect, and the state definitely isn't living up to its potential in a lot of ways - but it's a great place to live for a lot of us.

I've had cousins that have had to relocate to other parts of the country tell me how much they wish they could do what we did (move back to Louisiana). It's not easy to do, but the stars lined up for us. I thank God every day that they did.

Be proud. If more people put effort into their community and just didn't bitch about everything, it could get better. I hate how so many that live here talk so down about it. Every city, state, country has issues.

Yep, if more people would get back to thier roots and traditions of this great state we would experience a renaissance.

A lot of folks are closer to that than you'd think. An outsider would have to try very hard to isolate themselves in south Louisiana. The people will find them and befriend them. It's like the culture and the hospitality are inescapable.

We had to work at that in other parts of the country. It doesn't just happen so easily like it does in Louisiana.

Not really, there is a lot to love about this place. Unfortunately, the state and some local governments are making it difficult for people to stay in Louisiana, prosper, and raise a family in a safe environment.

It's not weird. There are so many things to love about Louisiana. You'd really have to be a miserable person not to be happy in south Louisiana.

It's not perfect and I understand why people seek opportunities elsewhere. But there isn't a place on earth than is truly perfect. If there is, that place is probably very boring.

It's not a simple problem to solve, but LA needs to figure out how to keep more of its college graduates in the state.

This.

It's not for the lack of desire to stay. It's the lack of opportunities.

Not saying you are wrong, but I'd like to see a breakdown of the jobs they are getting that we don't have. Information is big if we do want the younger ones to stay.

Lived in LA until mid 2000's. Moved to Alabama, I wouldn't move my family to Louisiana for a 300% raise.

I drove across the north and south parts of the state last week. The north end of the state is nice and quiet. The south end is beautiful. The ride on US 90 from Laffy to NOLA has a lot of nice stretches.

The state has a lot of problems but the land is great.
