i have never seen the allure of vegas personally.
i have always seen it as an overpriced production where people go to throw good money away on chintzy bullshite. The food scene recently did seem to be getting good though.
Finally went there for a conference last year, it was about what i expected.

My dad was in town this weekend so I went down to the strip for the first time in a while and was actually surprised how busy it was. Steakhouse at the Wynn was packed Friday night, and walking the strip was crowded.
Last night I went down to gamble with him and places like Paris, Planet Hollywood and Hardah’s were all packed at 9pm on a Sunday. Usually the weekend before the Super Bowl is dead but I think the Sphere is carrying a lot of places with people seeing the Eagles, Wizard of Oz etc.

My company offered me a trip there to participate in a conferment ceremony that wouldn’t cost me a red cent. I declined. Been there done that. Bought the t shirt. No interest.

Vegas has nickel and dimed tourists to death and ruined the attraction of the place.

It is now. All my friends from SoCal hate it now. They say it's way too expensive. Back when I was going there in the 90s and early 2000s, it was still a great bang for your buck. You got free beers while gambling, $1.99 steak and eggs, room comps were common etc.
The usual corporate nerds gentrified it and tried to make it a hip, trendy, expensive place.

Exactly. I used to visit Vegas somewhat regularly 20 years ago for work and to visit a couple friends that lived there.
Cheap rooms, lots of comps, free parking, no added resort fees, lots of tables at multiple price points all day, subsidized flights into Vegas. The only thing pricey at all was the flight back home.
Went back a couple years ago for work and none of the above was true, and some of it was shockingly counter to tradition. Things that shocked me was the table minimums and the parking and resort fees. Back in the early 2000's, you were practically doing something wrong if you paid for a drink; fast forward to 2024 and I was charged $12.50 for a bottled water.

Didn't they just have the SHOT show? I figure Vegas feels very different based on the size of the events in town on any given day.

The was 8 years ago…. No way that’s happening anymore.
Hell , flights are about $300 apiece from NOLA now

Feels sort of eerie but not sure if this is just their slow season
Hotel occupancy for 2025 was 80.3% which was a 7.5% decrease over 2024 and I've seen numbers for 2026 coming in at 76.1% so far... So its not just your imagination, the foot traffic isn't there.
Although, gambling $$$ is almost flat. Vegas has priced out the common man and relied on the big spenders to make it up in gaming.

International travelers just aren’t coming to Vegas as much. Lots of Canadians are still pissed about the 51st state trash talk.
“U.S. neighbors to the north were especially reticent. Canadian airlines finished the year with steep drops at Harry Reid Airport: WestJet's passenger total for 2025 fell about 28% from the previous year, and Air Canada's total dropped almost 22%”

The last two times I have been to Vegas were for work conventions. That appears to be when people go these days.

Also easy to bet from your phone these days. No need for a casino.

it is overpriced but you can definitely do it on the cheap. as far as entertainment las vegas is unmatched. also the city is amazing when it comes to moving around. Its one of the best run cities as far as transportation imo.
I definitely wouldnt go there to go clubbing on the strip but if you like shows and sporting events it is a very good place to visit. there is always something going on.

ook around at all the people gambling and notice that they really didn't look like they were exactly having fun.
Vegas doesn't make its money from Bret Maverick and the Cincinnati Kid. Their profit comes from zombies playing slot machines

Since you’re across the street don’t miss dining at the Peppermill. You can thank me later.

People having the ability to gamble at home coupled with less people going out and partying these days is probably a large part of the drop in Vegas tourism.

They have priced themselves out of regular people
Vegas pre-COVID was a lot of fun.

Resort fees, parking fees, insane dining prices, and other predatory tactics have become the norm in Las Vegas. It has annoyed a lot of tourists who have reallocated their travel budgets to Florida and other places.
And also there is an increasingly obvious issue with cleanliness and homelessness. That is also turning people away. Vegas spent decades ridding itself of that gritty, sketchy desert city only to let that element come right back in.
Vegas is in steep decline. It has excellent entertainment venues still, but the writing is on the wall. It will get worse before it gets better especially when regular folks have so many alternative outlets for cheap gambling.
