let's see how it works out for Zoom but I predict it won't go as planned. even if it does, there are too many benefits to remote/virtual work for both employees and employers for that go back to the "norm".

It will work. A LOT of major organizations are moving in that direction, Schwab, NCR, Fiserv, Northwestern Mutual, Tesla, Amazon, etc. The “benefits” you see, is not what most people see. Yea, it was great for a bit, but the constant back to back meetings, the video fatigue, zero human interaction, the lack of commitment and loyalty for/from your company, the collaboration, productivity level, etc, far outweighs the outliers that prefer to work in the boxers with a polo shirt on

Yep. My friend is a doctor and he calls them “work from homesexuals”. they start working from home and before you know it they’re spending less time in the home office and more time in the public park bathroom tapping their foot if you catch my drift

I agree with you that most companies are going in this direction, but the assertion that most employees prefer it is laughable.

We had a poster on here talking about how he was planning to make a move to Thailand and WFH for his US employer. Wonder how that went?

Trying to train and retain remote employees is awful.

Even just basic supervision of remote workers takes much more effort than if they were onsite.

We are hybrid (3 days onsite; 2 WFH days) I had two staff members leave for FT WFH positions in 2021 and by the looks of their work history in linkedin since then, it hasn't worked out well.. makes me wonder if FT remote workers are more likely to get laid off for whatever reason.

I’m remote on a contract/project basis but one thing people should consider is how many companies forcing people back to the office have a multi level issue within the commercial real estate game.

Company X…. Who you work for leases from Xa properties who are also owners of company x…. Xa properties are managed by xb management who are also some of the same owners throughout.. since this is a multi business property the lease rate and occupancy help with the valuation of the the property which allows the owners to cash out and buy more properties, repeating the process.

this isn't directed specifically to you but that is a very common sentiment on this place, I'd be curious as to whether everyone's employer shares that assessment?

I venture that they are the exact opposite. WFH is great for senior, experienced teams that already know each other. It’s sucks trying to develop teams and make a common bond/company culture.

It’s also horrendous for any form of company loyalty as it’s super easy to switch from one remote company to the other. Employees shouldn’t give one single frick about this, just saying my employers do.

How do you figure ? As long as high quality work is getting done, who cares where theyre doing it from.. but id definitely feel abused as that manager, even if i had brought it upon myself, if i had to work like 7pm to 5am every single day , frick that .
