Let Canada be a cautionary tale - Euthanasia edition

To be clear.
Euthanasia it the inevitable and predictable end game in a healthcare system controlled solely by a government.
Euthanasia is not the 5th leading cause of death in Canada and growing.
The cost of Euthanasia is far less taxing on the systems budget than treatment.
The system was implemented as bringing dignity to terminally ill patients who had exhausted all treatment options and has grown to allow euthanasia for just about any health related issues of the patient including and especially mental health issues.
The patients are required to consult with government health care representatives prior to being approved for euthanasia, and are counseled on organ donation as part of their counseling.
I'd be very curious to know how many of the harvested organs are used to treat Canadian citizen vs. how many are sold to the rest of the world.

I live in Oregon.
You can come here for the same thing and don’t need a passport.
Errobody gonna sell the organs man. Every single country in the world.

Die with dignity and while not being a burden on your family. Can see the appeal.
Versus the US method of keeping someone on life support then killing them with morphine and labeling it as pain management.

This VS wasting away in a hospice environment while your family watches you die. Frick that! Canada got this right.

Oh, sooory. You’re not eligible for your heart surgery for 2 years because we have 10,000 Patels that just got here last month and they’re ahead of you. Have you thought about assisted suicide?
Seriously, there are countless stories of people calling in to get care and are almost immediately asked about MAID

Just say you aren't interested in it. Not that hard.

I was against euthanasia because I thought it was wrong. Then I watched my Uncle that had Parkinson's and that I took care of wither away in pain and confusion. 2 years was bad and it changed my outlook on euthanasia. I am fully on board with someone deciding for themselves when they should leave this world. I don't ever want to watch what I watched again.

Is that really that different than your heart surgery costing a years salary for a poverty level uninsured patient? They have neither the time nor the money. Its just a different route to the same ending.
Eta: immigration policy aside. I acknowledge that point

They impose euthanasia on patients by denying or delaying access to treatment because they can’t afford to provide it for everyone despite what they promise when the system is sold to the public.

I'm not sure Canada has this right, but, I do now think this country needs to adopt something where it's allowed under certain circumstances. Watching people lay in nursing home beds for years seems wrong.

Unfortunately, there is revenue to be made in that misery.

Canadians with means have been coming here for years for surgeries.
You cant walk around SCSH without hearing an "ehh" or " aboot" every few minutes.

Combined the euthanasia and suicide rate in Canada is almost 20% lower than the suicide rate in the United States. Life expectancy in Canada is just 5% higher than it is in the US. Healthcare costs for Canadians are almost exactly half what they are in the US. The question isn't who is better off from a health care and life expectancy POV, Canada is clearly better. It ain't a question of Universal coverage compared to US health insurance. Again, Canada is clearly better. The question is, and no one will ask it, why does Canada only spend 2% of their GDP on defense while we spend a little over 4% in the US? The answer is Canada, like the rest of the world, can afford to provide better healthcare at lower costs because the United States provides almost the entirety of what security there is in the world. We can afford to do both, we simply refuse to do so, for a myriad of reasons, but we have the money.

100% this. frick dying a slow, painful death while your loved ones most vivid memories of you become the shell you wither away to.

I’m fine with it.
If someone has some serious illness, they should be able to go peacefully before it gets so bad they are in tons of pain and wither away.

Canada: the death penalty is barbaric because the government is killing bad guys who hurt/raped/killed innocent people
Also Canada: the government can euthanize people

Just found out yesterday that a friend that I grew up with committed suicide. He was one of the more popular dudes from Montgomery, everyone liked him, lots of friends, lawyer, beautiful wife and 2 young kids. Another friend told me last night that he had been diagnosed with ALS. 38 years old. Absolutely brutal.

The amount of pro-Euthanasia people already in this thread is appalling. It's evil and no-one wants to talk about the "doctors" who have killed more people than any serial killer in history.
Edit: It's horrible for the mental health and soul of those who go to work to kill people.
