This one isn't true. Country Roads is indeed about West Virginia.

the song "Ramblin' Man" is about Betts growing up in Florida, not Georgia

Regardless, what is also factually correct is that even though John Denver was a cowriter of Country Roads (Almost Heaven)- he had never in his life set foot in the state of West Virginia when that song was released .. that’s a true story .
The Shenandoah River and Blue Ridge mountains are both primarily in Virginia and only a little bit in West Virginia. So I contend that the song is actually about west Virginia, not West Virginia.

E=MC^2 The mass also increases when you put tension on the spring.
This is technically correct.
Let's do some simple math.
The energy in a spring usually denoted by U for potential energy is U=1/2kx^2. This is Hooks Law.
In this case, E=mc^2. E is equal to U.
If we rearrange this equation the change in mass (calling it dm) is:
dm = E/c^2
So if we impart 10 Joules of energy into a spring the mass increase would be the following (speed of light ~3 X 10^8 m/s):
dm = (10 J)/(3 X 10^8)^2 = 9 x 10^-16 kg.
That is an incredibility small mass increase. Certainly imperceptible by any measuring equipment we have today.
But it is a mass increase nonetheless.

Adding to the logos one:
The Brewers logo (the greatest in baseball, and I admit this as a Cubs fan) has an interlocking M and B
The new Bucks logo has an M on the chest of the buck

Correct. My "fact" is one that anyone with a modest STEM education intuitively knows is accurate even if they never considered it unless they are willing to argue the General Theory of Relativity is wrong or situational. The amounts are not measurable by humans unless or until a huge amount of energy is imparted to a very small mass usually by increasing its speed up to the point it is getting near C. It is important to note most things on Earth are constantly changing mass. When your dog lays in the sun the hairs are gaining mass as they heat up, when you drive to work the mass of your vehicle (and everything in it) is constantly changing as it speeds up and slows down and also as a result in changes in temperature.

No, it is actually true... kinda. It might not make logical sense, but the added potential energy of a compressed spring adds to the mass of the system so long as you only look at the spring as its own system.
You can even see it in the math with a formula we all know: E = mc^2
C is a constant, so, if you increase the energy, E (in this case potential energy), the mass must increase as well.
Edit: I see that GumboPot beat me to this.

When driving, the closer you get to 100mph the less fuel you burn. At 100+mph you start creating fuel.

And just to be clear E=mc^2 is only part of Einstein's equation.
The full equation is E^2=m^2C^4 + p^2C^2
The reason that E=mc^2 works at the Newtonian level is because at the Newtonian level the p term (momentum) is near zero.
But at the speed of light we can estimate the amount of energy of a photon of light by E=pc^2 because the photon is massless but contains energy.
I think a good analogy is that light energy is like waves in the ocean. The energy passes though the ocean in what we see as a wave but the particle do not move forward (they do but only very slightly). It like electricity. It's not electrons moving. It energy from atom to atom through a conductive wire (although there is some electron migration but very slow).

What about interstate 40? I’m not sure I understand what you mean

A small battery in my mouse failed, it said 1.5 volts. I didn't find a 1.5 volt in our collection of batteries. Then my husband, with a nudge of superiority, said all the AA and AAA batteries are 1.5v. Who knew? besides him.

Thanks a LOT for this one. The cop that just pulled me over looked at me like I was an idiot when I was trying to tell him I was speeding because I was almost out of gas and needed to create enough fuel to get to the gas station. I have a feeling this is not going to be an inexpensive citation.

quote:Didn't check I-40 but I was responding to someone who said the number of the interstate corresponds to how much land of the country remains on one side. So for example, I-95 goes up the east coast. The poster suggested that it was I-95 because 95% of the US landmass lay to its west. That seems plausible, but it doesnt work for I-55. Far more than 55% of the US landmass is west of it.
