I’m flying out of town Friday afternoon. Hoping this front doesn’t do what many do and come in faster than expected. I’m kind of pissed I may miss a winter event but Florida weather should be a nice option.

I don't recall it snowing for this event. All I remember is that it was cold as a motherfricker.

I don’t know exactly where the snow fell in 89 but South Lafourche had 4-5 inches in most places. Also hit 10 degrees and single digits in Houma and Thibodaux.
By far the most snow and coldest down here since the 60s. I believe 57 had a bigger snow event but maybe not as cold as 89.

Checking in. Senior year of high school. Killed the pizz out of ducks, only had to take a small herd of your closest friends to do it since the limit was 3 ducks a person. Getting buddies to go hunt when it was 8 degrees outside was somewhat problematic too.
I still chuckle when I go home over Christmas and watch the weather. The record low in Monroe for like 5 days straight is always 1989.

According to this model, BR stays under 25 degrees from 6:00am Friday thru at least 6:00am Monday when the run ends

We'll all be ice skating in our living rooms from the busted pipes freezing in our homes
I wonder if that dude who recently posted how happy he was that he cancelled his homeowners insurance is going to hurry up and buy some this week

We are 16 pages in and we’re talking about the 89 frigid cold and no mention of the ice storm in 1997?
I’m not sure how bad it got in SELA, but how many here remember that cluster? Power out for a week. You can walk outside and stand there for 5 minutes and hear nothing but trees snapping. I’ll never forget that sound and how crippling it was, at least in the LC area.

Yeah, but look how warm we stay in Orlando!
and by the way I seriously doubt that model verifies. That just way too anamolous.

Can anyone confirm it's sleeting in Ville Platte?

A quarter inch of ice accumulated primarily on grassy and non-paved surfaces, with an inch accumulating on higher, more exposed surfaces such as trees and power lines. This storm left around 3/4 of the area between Beaumont, TX and Lake Charles, LA powerless. Power outages were noted at far west as Houston and Galveston, in some cases for as many as 5 days.

I just walked outside and almost froze. I cannot fathom what next weekend will be like.

12z Euro put most of us back in warm air for next Friday, killing the winter weather. Has most of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana in the 60s or upper 50s on Friday.

Heck, with this Euro there might be a better chance of severe weather in the southeast than winter weather.
It'll probably change again, though.

For a number of years after that, you could drive north on I-55 through Mississippi and see the damaged trees from the storm. Lots of dead trees and trees that snapped.

an event like that would warrant ordering more forestry clearing machines, but even then i truly hope we aren't looking at that type of an event. FRICK THAT!
