Thats because most people who are relocating to St Tammany are doing it for the public schools. If they wanted to pay private school tuition, they could just stay on the south shore and save the commute.

Not even close....unless you're living in Mandeville off Hwy 22 between the Tchefuncte River and the 22-Causeway Approach split

I have relatives in both areas.

Schools: People always mention public schools but completely ignore private but THAT is the major difference. Covington has THE best by far. Mandeville kids come to Covington to go to the private schools! Public schools can be better in Mandeville but it depends. In my opinion, strive for private schooling at all costs but If you can’t afford private schools then do Mandeville. Watch out for drugs though.

Traffic: Mandeville has much worse traffic issues. Not even close.

Scenery: Mandeville has the lake which is incredibly beautiful so if you can afford to live on the lake, that would be my choice but flood insurance is astronomical since it flood a lot now days.

People: Covington is way more laid back. Mandeville has their beau chene people and they can be .......”persnickety” . Covington has no such people.

Nightlife: maybe better in Mandeville but Covington has the Southern Hotel and lots of stuff going on there so it just depends on what you want.

Outdoor activity: depends on what you want but I’d give the edge to Mandeville.

Housing; Mandeville has a lot of neighborhoods surrounding it. Lots of housing. Covington is less dense.

Crime: not an issue either place.

This area is pure hell. Don’t come here.

This. Stay far away. Have you looked into Central City in New Orleans?

You act like Covington is an hour away from Mandeville.

Mandeville= public school

Covington= private school

Traffic is getting worse either way but Covington is definitely the worst considering the speed limit on that side of I12. Both have small crime areas that most likely stay in that specific zone. Both have a high population of pill popping parents. Trashy is all relative. Politics are similar for the most part, Mandeville will have more drama. Both are good areas considering most of the state.

They're both great and have really cool little downtowns. Can't think of too many negatives.. I love it. They're old resort towns historically speaking.. Southshore folks would build summer homes here.

You mean the quaint, affordable housing that is walking distance from historic St Charles Avenue and near the bustling commercial center of South Claiborne!?!

No thank you.

I did city living in Nola as a younger man. Was fun at the time but never again, I'm afraid.

If I'm moving into a house that someone else is moving out of, I should not be adding population to your Garden of Eden. This protective, territorial vibe I'm getting from some makes me want to move there more, though.

Just make sure to vote Republican and we'll welcome you with open arms. The Northshore is nice for a reason. Let's keep it that way.

Very familiar with BSL. I do like it but was looking to stay in the state. I'm not so sure about kids over there. Feel like country kids do a lot more drugs and have a lot more underage sex, but maybe I'm just a prejudiced a-hole.

Mandeville/Covington is more like an outlying suburb of N.O. I don't get as much of a "rural" vibe. Exurbs, maybe?

More evacuation stress for hurricanes in BSL too.

You hit the nail on the head. It's part of the GNO metro area.

Northshore is a good inbetween mix of suburb/ rural. Really depends on your area. Even the suburben areas are a lot more peaceful than what you'd find in many other places considering the population.
