Prayers for his family, friends, and neighbors.

Lonnie, I have to ask (maybe I missed it, if so, my apologies) but how is Mr. Bill's dog who wouldn't get out of his truck the day of his death doing these days?

my wife and i just moved into our home last january, and about a week after we moved in we were leaving, and an elderly lady we had not met was laying in the street in front of her house. she had apparently fell because a car went by too fast not paying attention, and she went o move out of the way with her dog and tipped on the edge of the curb and split her head open above her eye. we got her up in a sitting position, got some towels and called 911 for her. even got neighbors out to help.
she ended up being ok - she has been in the house since it was built in the 60's.
she uses a walker now, and the neighbors all look in on her to make sure she is ok, and to walk her dog for her. anytime she is outside, i keep an eye on her - just in case.

so are you just repeating a common narrative that some people like to say because other people like to hear it?

I've always heard this, but never gave it much credence.
However, when my wife was pregnant with our first child, our female mutt (probably 6 years old at the time) started acting weirdly protective of my wife. Wouldn't leave her side. When the boy was born, she wouldn't leave his side. Eventually things went back to normal. When my wife was pregnant for the second time, she started exhibiting the same behaviors as before.
Fast forward to this year, at the age of 14, her health got really really bad and we had to put her down. We had a lady come to the house and do it at home so she wouldn't be scared at the vet. We have another mutt that we originally got just before this dog, so they have both been with us for the last 14 years. He was around during the euthanasia process and his behavior was no different than usual. They carried her away and he didn't really act sad or out of character. He carried on begging for food and treats and whining for our attention, as he always has lol. We were so worried that he'd be distraught and get depressed, but that wasn't the case at all. He hasn't seem to notice, at least not visibly.
All that to say...I'm sure it simply depends on the dog.

How thoughtful of you to ask. She's doing well. She still goes for rides in his truck, and is a good guard dog for her mamma. She doesn't get to do to the dog park as much. My dog and her will fuss at each other under the fence, which they both love to do.
And from time to time, she'll come over and poop in my yard.

We're very fortunate to have great neighbors.

Overrated.
And not recommended when a loved one dies. Dogs have much to learn.

Cool dog story from when I visited Scotland. Kind of long. Read it or don’t.

You didn’t have to click on the thread. Despite the negative comment hopefully you’re lucky enough to have people think so fondly of you one day.

I don't have any immediate neighbors, but if I did, I'd like it to be someone like Lonnie Utah.

Lonnie this has become a legit CSB and now with the update the cherry on top. This is how Neighbors should be
I live in a great neighborhood also and I do not take that for granted. I have had way to many less than desirable neighbors before our present day home.
