This is probably a case of, “know the unique things about your breed of dog”.
Dachshund are very instinctive dogs. They were bred to be attack machines in tight spaces. They are one of the few breeds that can dig or attack while resting on their chest.
They can get very defensive about their cage space.
If I called mine out and they refused to come out, I’d look first to see if they appeared sick or injured, and then I would lift the crate and shake them out, either gently or with some moderate shaking if they were just being little assholes.
I only got nipped once or twice, but not because of the crate thing. I knew better than to reach in there.

Man, that is a damn nasty wound…better take care of it.
As for the wiener dog…I have no tolerance for any dog that is aggressive towards people. He is very lucky that I am not his owner…I would have already put a bullet in his head.
While this is fresh on your mind, you need to ask yourself whst you are going to do the next time he does this….

He only goes there to sleep and when he wants to. I lock him in overnight so that he doesn't take a dump in the house. He had just entered and I reached in to remove his stuffed duck. That is when he went into attack mode.
I have 2 and parents have 2 as well.
I cannot even fathom one of them doing that. How old is this thing? What type of environment have you been raising it in?
Again, I cannot even begin to imagine one of these 4 dogs doing this to someone it knows. I also can’t imagine me not moving before it did THAT much damage. You keep your arm in there for a few minutes? Lol

I didnt realize until after that they were bred to hunt badgers and be vicious with a mean bite.
Bred to hunt badgers in their own fricking den. They are basically the dog version of the crazy fricks sent down into the tunnels in Vietnam. They are massive (little) assholes

Have 1 pure bred mini dachshund that just turned 10. Would not harm a fly
Have a 5 year old mini dachshund/chihuahua mix. Like 80/20 dachshund to chihuahua and he can get pretty aggressive when provoked. Always attributed that to the chihuahuaness tbough

You put your arm in his safe space, you ignoramus. He felt threatened.

Soak your hand in some epsom salt with warm water. Keep it in there for a good 30 minutes or so to clean it.
Then get some triple antibiotic ointment and slather it on. Wrap it up.
Do that for a few days.

The bruise is always the worst part of a dog bite and the part that lingers.
