In & out of rehab around 15 times, only 32 years old and considered dangerous by his own family, so let’s bring him to a party and burden the folks at the party with his unsettling actions and then he goes and kills the two people who brought him.

Hopefully this will be a wake up call for others harboring dangerous mentality ill family members.

I do wonder why, if he was having that hard of a time with illness, meds and drugs, why he wasn't inpatient until he was stabilized.

My guess is given Rob Reiner's political stance and his ultra liberal ideology, he just couldn't or wouldn't sign the papers to have his son committed and Nick obviously wasn't keen on seeking treatment on his own.

If Nick checked into a treatment program, there is nothing to hold him there if he decides to walk out since he self-committed.

Of course his lawyers are going to go with the mental illness defense that resulted in him not being responsible for his actions since that is all he can do to try to limit the son's sentence.

Well, at least he'll have time to get clean being locked up until it goes to trial---------unless some stupid judge sets bail he can somehow afford to come up with.

Or will this mental illness be cured in a couple of months?

If the kind of money it takes for 70K a month was happening, how the hell did his parents decide to take him to that party?
Further, how did they decide to leave without him ? (Or was that not reported correctly?)
Once he started confronting the guests ("Are you famous?"), shouldn't the parents have immediately removed him as most would do to any other obstreperous child?

These celebrities raise the most screwed up kids. It’s insane how messed up so many of them are.

Truly they do.

Most days I consider myself quite blessed to have neither fame nor fortune- it looks like a curse from where I'm sitting.

Yup. Goes to show you money and an "easy life" aren't all they're cracked up to be. Humans need to have a purpose in life...something that drives them and gives them motivation and satisfaction. But too many wealthy parents think they're being good parents by giving their kids everything and then some for their entire life. Couldn't be further from the truth.

If you are schizophrenic and you murder someone, you are clearly too dangerous to be in public, regardless if the mental disorder is "your fault "

My biggest problem with this is that if my child was schizophrenic, and I knew it, I probably wouldn't be inviting them to Christmas parties with a lot of people around.

I mean it sucks and I get that, but at some point you have to protect your kid by not putting them in situations where they could hurt people, at least everything in your power...

Same. Getting Nick's meds stabilized should have been priority before any kind of socializing.

If I had to guess... The Reiners didn't want to miss the party and were probably not keen on leaving Nick at home alone.

There seems to be a lot of schizophrenia happening in Los Angeles.

Our sources also say Nick's substance abuse was worsening the schizophrenia.
Not just that, it pretty much entirely negates the medication. My brother does well in managing his medication, but it's painfully obvious when he's drinking even just a little bit.

patients with schizophrenia are easy to identify just based on how they respond to simple questions

Can you expand on this? I am truly curious about this process.

Sure.

Patients with thought disorders do not simply have hallucinations and/or delusions. They have irregularity in their thought processes. If you sit with them (and make them comfortable with you in a trust relationship) - they will explain in great detail exactly what is going on with them and why their behaviors are in response to that disruption in thought.

When they are really young (premorbid) - before their 1st psychotic break which usually happens in late teens or early 20’s - they are very scared of the symptoms that are beginning to emerge.

It’s terrifying for them and they are trying to make sense of it all. I can count on my hands the number of schizophrenic patients I have seen that are heavy drug users. They are heavy smokers, vaping, drinking and (some) weed. But they don’t use LSD, Heroin, speed, or cocaine. Those drugs make their symptoms worse.

For this reiner guy - he was not going in and out of rehab for decades to quit alcohol or weed.

While no doubt schizophrenia is a very real and very serious mental illness, this feels like laying the foundation for the rich Hollywood version of “he wuz a gud boy, he dindu nuffin!”

I think I read he lived in a place behind his parents that they gave him and they also gave him $10k a month? That level of entitlement along with mental issues.. They created a monster.
