Louisiana spent a larger percentage of its own state revenue on the Medicaid program than any other state except New York

Have you seen the people walking around this state?

We are dominated by poor and fat people. Thats not a good combo

Better be paying the employer taxes before doing so ... unemployment taxes, workers comp, FICA, etc.

Here is the info on the gift cards LINK.

Preventative maintenance is way cheaper than dealing with an issue once it has become serious.

A Medicaid thread just to let us know you have a housekeeper. You're trying too hard.

They probably found that this method encourages people to go to the doctor and thus lowers health costs overall.

Yeah, there is no way that paying people to go to a doctor's appointment would ever be taken advantage of. People will definitely not go for every little sniffle just to get another gift card, because people are so responsible. And politicians will definitely not use that increase in doctor's visits to claim more taxes are needed to cover the increasing costs of gift cards and doctor's visits.

Geez, people. You fiscal liberals really are something.

There is a reason you won't pay for monthly full body scans in the name of prevention; it's not cost effective.

We can argue that Medicaid should not even exist.

But if it does... the state is probably saving significant money by doing this. A few CVS gift cards as incentives for preventive care/appts is MUCH cheaper than paying for hospital bills and medicine when crap goes wrong.

So you believe a free gift card to CVS is going to keep people out of hospitals, what can I say?

If that works let's give en free gift cards to Picadilly, Sears, and any store close by where they can purchase healthy meals, warm clothing or other "good" things because you know at CVS and Picadilly they will only buy healthy stuff they have to have.

She mentioned the other day that each time she goes to an appointment or has a procedure the state sends her a CVS gift card. In the last month she's gotten 3 cards totaling $65. Also, she gets her prescriptions at no charge. She did mention that you can't buy booze or cigs with the card. The state is PAYING her to go to her appointments.

Are you reporting her wages to the state and federal government so that she pays taxes or are you paying her cash under the table? You response directly affects the level of outrage I may or may not feel.

No, I don't think they all will turn a new leaf and become healthy individuals.

I'm talking more about the individual that don't go to a doctor, ever, and it takes a catastrophic event for them to land in the hospital. Incentives for them to even go and get a checkup can potentially be preventing one of those incidents saves thousands alone.

Preventative Healthcare is where America as a whole needs to improve. I'm up for anything to save money in the long run

Stop giving her STD's and maybe she wouldn't have to go to the doctor as often.

Boooo frick that. I'd rather people let small cheap problems turn into big expensive problems before receiving healthcare! I don't care if this is neither cost effective nor an efficient method of boosting overall health and productivity. This is America!!

I'm with you baw.

I didn't work my way up to a 60k/year middle management job at the plant and pay the mortgage at my 1/2 acre Grant Parish estate just to fund with my tax dollars some refugee leeching off the government.
