This isn't because younger generations are lazy. It's because doing more work isn't rewarded. If Person A and Person B have the same job and same/similar pay, A badly outperforms B, and A's reward is picking up some of B's slack, that makes A not want to do as much. I've experienced this multiple times.

Transitioning from the traditional 5 day work week to a 4 day work week would benefit a ton.

I believe in hard work, but also hard work being rewarded. It’s difficult to swallow when you bust your arse year in and year out to see meager bonuses (if any) and tiny pay raises. While managers reap bigger rewards and increases.

We are one of the worst countries in the world when it comes to employee treatment. Take a look at leave time and sick/family leave.

Why is this difficult to digest? Deployed, we worked 12 on/12 off as a bare minimum.
Was just going say the same thing.
In Afghanistan we had convoys that were 36+ hours and no rest until you reached your destination.
Then you immediately went into the 12 on 12 off until the mission was complete and then another 36+ hour convoy back to your FOB.

I subscribe to the "work hard" camp, but I also understand the "do only what is required" camp.
I've seen the hard workers constantly get passed over for promotion/ pay raises just to see some boot-lickers or friends-in-high-places type person get it.

So what’s the problem here?

Oh yeah, corporate America expects us to do more than what we are hired to do and when we just simply do our jobs and nothing more or less, we suck.

frick all that.

Anyone got cliffs on the first 66 pages?

I’m intrigued. This seems to be a pretty boring topic to reach almost 70 pages.

this is what people who don't work in the corporate cubicle world can't understand (and i get why)

Boomers mad at millennials. Don't even know what generation are millennials. Boomer can't find his pen to writeup millenial for not showing up to work 8 days a week. Boomer realizes it's Friday and has proctologist exam at noon and asks everyone to do his job. Millennials fault boomer.manager has hemorrhoids

I hate millenials and zoomers as much as the next old guy but if a company gives zero fricks about its employees there's no reason the employees should give any fricks about the company.

My contribution on page 86. I have seen it first hand my company used to want and keep the best employees now they don’t give two shits about hourly or salary hence the turnover on both sides is astronomical. My first 14 years with this company I can count on two hands how many quit but over my last 10 years I bet we have lost over 200 employees easily. Just sad

All day everyday.

I used to put out 100% everyday and even during my off times (phone calls/emails/texts) but promotions came and I was passed over again and again by people whose performance was well under mine.

Now? I make myself and my coworkers the priority, not the company. I help out when needed/requested but otherwise I maintain the status quo and spend more time with my friends and family.

The people aren’t always the ones with attitudes/problems. A lot of times it’s created from up top.

There's certainly a weird thing in America where people seem to intentionally undersell expectations and then get mad when those expectations are merely met instead of exceeded.

But that's the exact opposite of this quiet quitting, which is pretty darn great that someone wrote an article about this as slacking at work is some new phenomenon.

When I first started as an associate at a law firm I remember one of the partners telling me he didn't take a week for vacation until he got married and took a full week for his honeymoon. That was one of the first moments I knew I didn't want to be one of them when I was 50

Roger lied about stuff for 40 pages or so and was thoroughly mocked for it.

Judge Holden has made at least $25 million over his career and is sore about his ROI on Medicare tax payments.

Yeah, there was that too. And around 40 pages or so he admitted we were right, he just thinks you should go all out anyway.
