Thats not a refund. they didnt give you want you ordered. That was their error not yours.
edit, either way, they should bring you out what you ordered with no refund.
If it's a sit down restaurant, its not a refund, I haven't paid you yet. I'm not going to pay you for your frick up and I am not going to trust you to make me something else. Do better with the next customer because you lost me.
If I eat half of it before I complain, then yeah I need to pay you though.

replacing it would be the only way unless you're walking out the door anyway. Keep your stock in order. That's not on the customer.

Don't forget that if you decide to go AYCE make sure to specify it's All YOU Can Eat not All EVERYONE IN YOUR PARTY Can Eat!

Nah, if I haven’t touched the food. I don’t have to pay. Serve it to someone else. Not my issue.

i'm starting to become a dick with tipping.
i'm starting to tip 10% in times where i feel the waitress/waiter was just low effort. if you're low effort, so am i buddy. like don't ignore the table for 20 minutes at a time, ever. but yet you were down my neck 3 times trying to get us to order in a hurry.

If it goes to the table the food is dead. We don't know if you sneezed all over it or not. Obviously if you see something wrong, and it is wrong, then that is on the restaurant.

If you are going to mandate a 20% tip, you better make sure your employees provide at least a basic level of service and stop acting like our presence is an inconvenience.
Better yet, if there is an expectation of a certain tip amount with every meal, then pay your people a respectable wage and advertise that your staff does not accept tips.

I was replying to a guy that says when he serves flat beer or moldy bread the customer still has to pay. Pretty sure neither of those should go to the table either.

Well, if I don't have time to sit around and wait for you to cook me a new dish, then what?

just got back from a couple of weeks in Europe, dined at a bunch of very nice restaurants in several cities, great food and service, in not a single place did the wait staff ask for nor expect a tip, only exceptions were a couple of places that charged a small fee, $15-20, for ambiance /atmosphere, I forgot the term they used, and I suspect that was because the restaurants were so close to ground zero for the Olympics

I think certain situations warrant a refund like moldy or stale food, raw food, foreign objects in the food, etc. If I order a meal, I expect it to be safe to eat. But you're right about people demanding a refund simply because they didn't like the meal. Go write a bad Google review or bitch about it on Facebook or something but don't expect a refund simply because you didn't like it.

I was at the Chili's in Ruston a couple years ago and it must've been Grambling Homecoming or something. A girl at the table next to us got her food and I heard her tell the waitress it didn't look like she thought it would and she wanted to return it and order something else.
I don't know why but it pissed me off more than it probably should have.

Then you lose the demographics that want to tap and pay

Most savvy waiters/restaurants check on the table shortly after bringing the food out. Is your steak cooked correctly? That way, the bum mf'er can't eat 4/5 of his steak then send it back and refuse another and expect it taken off the bill.

How the hell does a restaurant let this happen?
WREG.com posts a weekly local restaurant inspection report, most states and counties post similar reports too. You'd be surprised, then dismayed, how bad many places can be.

What if I order the chicken? Do I still have to eat the pork chop?

NO REFUND SIGN
It would keep all the riffraff out of trying to comp a free meal.
Yes, along with a sign stating that each person must pay for a buffet (no sharing)
