Just a great actor who looked so comfortable in all his roles.
His reaction to Jake Spoon kicking the horse out from under his self looked so natural and genuine. Did not look like acting.

Open range is one of my all time favorites. So many great quotes in that film.

Easily my favorite movie/ mini series. I’ve seen it dozens of times and I’ll start watching it again tonight while making biscuits and trying to cut the cards with the wife. There’s lots to learn from Woodrow F Call and Augustus McCrae.

Hope he was able to get one last poke before cashing out.

It was two second reaction with no words spoken, just a close up of his face. The shock and remorse in his eyes felt so real.

Everybody knows The Godfather and Apocalypse Now and Lonesome Dove, but one of my favorite Robert Duvall performances is in a fairly predictable Clint Eastwood western called Joe Kidd. Duvall plays the main villain, a big rancher who is stealing land from Mexican farmers.
It's a role Duvall could easily have phoned in, barking orders to his henchmen and sneering every once in a while. But Duvall does something special, giving the character an extra dimension by playing him like a Southern good ole boy, dripping condescension with every remark. His delivery of lines like "If he wuddn't I doubt we'd be talkin'" and "You got to thinkin' 'bout the money, didja?" enhance the character, as he treats everyone like a hired hand -- or worse, as a stupid child he shouldn't even be wasting his time with.
FWIW, I actually think Duvall's performance in Joe Kidd is better than the one he gave in that same year's The Godfather. IMHO it's one of the great villains in movie history and should be much better known.

I'll always remember him telling the joke to Sean Penn in Colors about the Papa bull and the younger bull.

I LOVED Lonesome Dove as an 8 year old, and watched it many times over the years. Gus was such a great juxtaposition to Call. RD was always a fun actor to watch.

Watched LD again about 5 months ago. Still holds up. But it feels timeline rushed in today's world. It deserved another 3-5 episodes at minimum. Lonesome Dove today, in 6 or 8 episodes, would be incredible.

Looks like Tubi and Pluto have it. It's such a great watch. 4 episodes, about an hour and a half each.

I actually played his character, Sonny, in "The Apostle" during a flashback scene. It was 30 years ago, but I still remember him. He was very approachable and extremely kind. RIP Bobby
