Is that going to require amputation?

Dave Dravecky. I remember when this happened and the description of the sound heard throughout Olympic Stadium when his arm broke. Later had to have it amputated when the cancer returned.

Just looked it up and it did count. Apparently if a runner is injured before reaching a dead ball awarded base, a pinch runner can complete it for him…
If the baserunner’s immobile with a shaking leg halfway between first and second, how can you rag him out, considering the ball is in the stands?
That’s a much savvier sequence than the double play.

who was the LSU/Bears player who broke his legs on astroturf
This thread reminded me of the auburn gymnast who broke a leg, had both knees dislocated, and several ligaments torn at a meet with LSU or regional at LSU back in 2019 I think.

Don Baylor broke his legs while catching a ceremonial first pitch

He shouldn’t be playing if he’s that fragile. Seriously. Thats soft dna.

Could be a cancerous lesion but I sure hope not. Getting a major injury while celebrating is such a bad luck move. Several football players were never the same after a celebration: Frank Hostetler (brain on a wall head butt) and Martin Gramatica blew his knee out after a FG. Any others I forgot?

In Puerto Rico?
I blame bad bunny for this too! Poor kid.

Who is Frank Hostetler? I think you mean Gus Frerotte of the Redskins.

That girl is all around talented as Hell if she competed in college athletics and got an AE degree.

A baseball player at my high school broke his arm on a non-contact play, and he ended up having bone cancer. Seems really odd for a leg to be that weak.
Steroids can also weaken bones, although I don't know that they could do so to that degree.
But yeah, there's some underlying medical complication. Bones don't just snap like that with healthy young athletes.

That was ugly.
I was thinking last night about all this celebrating in sports - jumping up and down, head butting, chest bumps, etc - and why we don't see more players getting hurt during these displays.

Run doesn’t count either. Double whammy
A similar injury occurred in a girls softball game last year. The rules did not allow for teammates to assit the player in completing her trip around the bases. In a great display of sportsmanship a couple of the opposing players carried her around the bases, gently setting her down on each base. Respect for the player and the game.
