People have a hard time with that. Flour is to cake as cement is to concrete.

Not my state, but if you’re driving I-85 in Alabama south of Evergreen you might see a “Murder Creek” on a sign.

It’s actually named for murders that occurred at that creek, where a group of travelers to Pensacola was ambushed in 1788.

That would be I-65. I-85 ends in Montgomery.

Louisiana is home to Poverty Point, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates to about 3,400 years ago (roughly 1700–1100 BC).

Idaho strapped parachutes to beavers and chucked them out of airplanes to relocate them.

I didn’t even realize they voted out that POS Chokwe out of office last year. That’s at least something.

Pre-statehood a family in Bean Station Tennessee were not killed by the Cherokee because the Cherokee so liked the taste of the butter the wife churned, that they decided to let them live.

Huntsville AL

In an old limestone quarry and adjoining the city’s cemetery is a public park that has been dubbed the Dead Children’s Playground. There are numerous origin stories of the name. The two most common are that a series of children’s disappearances in the 60s was connected to skeletal remains found in the old quarry when the playground was built, or because the section of the cemetery next to the playground contains a large number of children who died from Spanish Flu.

Both are probably made up completely. It’s surrounded by cliffs on 3 sides and a cemetery on the other. It’s spooky at night.

Anyway, it’s kind of a teenage right of passage in Huntsville to get stoned, sneak into the park in the middle of the night, and try to scare your friends.

During the Comanche rise to ascendancy in the 17th and 18th century, they conducted an extermination campaign against their bitter enemies, the Apache. Most of the survivors fled to the mountains of New Mexico and Arizona, but one Apache band went east, to what was then Spanish Louisiana. They settled in what is present day Sabine Parish, in and around Zwolle and their descendants still inhabit the area.

I thought this was a joke, looked it up and I'll be damned, it's true. Wow!

quote:

Herman Johnson, the former LSU football player famous for his size, weighed an enormous 15 pounds, 14 ounces (15 lbs 14 oz) at birth, making him the largest baby recorded in Louisiana history at the time. Birth Details: He was born in West Monroe, Louisiana, on January 29, 1985. Record Holder: His birth weight set a state record for the biggest baby ever born in Louisiana. Prophecy: The doctor who delivered him famously told his mother he would grow up to be an LSU Tiger, which came true as he became a standout guard for the team.

I can’t deny this. I graduated high school in 1983. I have good memories of my time there and it was probably linked to the last days of his influence. I know his sons went to Rummel (with my cousins) and he wanted them to have no part of “the life.”
