That's a great ending to a terrible story. Thanks for sharing it with us. Your prayers have been answered.

Thanks for the update…I’m so glad y’all are all safe. Sounds like everyone still has a good ways to go before anyone has what is considered a “normal life” though.

I wish it were ended, but this is a pretty positive part way point that could be much, much worse.
Try to help your hostess do everyday things that are chores. Ask how you can help her. Good luck.

Like many others I have followed this thread from the beginning and just wanted to send well wishes and congratulations to u all for being able to reunite safely.
I know things are far from where u want them to be at the moment but I hope u can at least now enjoy some peaceful sleep knowing that your crew is safe and that u can wake up next to them.
God Bless

thank you again. I will post sporadically if something important comes up.
Any updates brother ... still in Switzerland ? Any progress on moving to the host family in Gatlinburg? I can't imagine having to leave a place I called home for my entire life, and moving to a foreign country with only a suitcase of belongings. I'm guessing your wife is still trying to process this whole ordeal while dealing with PTSD, culture shock, and raising 2 children (infant and teenager). You and your family are still in my prayers.

UPDATE: 6/14/2022
Sorry I haven't updated but I don't spend time on this board and not much has changed.
The family is still in Switzerland and doing well. I have her son and father approved to come to the US but have hit a snag with her mother that I will get resolved shorty.
I am flying back to Switzerland in a couple of weeks and should be returning with the whole gang.
The one person missing is my father-in-law. He has decided to stay in Lisichansk. He is the only doctor there to deliver babies and believe or not he is still delivering them. I can't imagine what these mothers are going through delivering a baby in that environment. He is my hero, but I wish he would leave. I'm afraid things will only get worse. Lisichansk could become the worse battle in this whole war. Who would have imagined that.
Everyone else is well. Genna is still in Kharkiv and they get quite a few bombs but he is doing okay.
I had a little health scare when I was in Switzerland. I passed out from low blood pressure, face planted. I woke covered in blood, called for my wife and went out again. I was unconscious, eyes open, not breathing, no pulse for 3 or 4 minutes. Mother-in-law did CPR and brought me back. Never a dull moment. I'm fine now.
I will let you guys know if anything major happens or when they actually make it to the states.

UPDATE: 6/26/22
I am flying back to Switzerland tomorrow to see my family. From there I will most likely be headed to Kiev, Ukraine. I have some unfinished business in Ukraine and I want to see what I can do to help.
My father-in-law is in Lisichansk and it's not good. He is still delivering babies, since he is one of the few Doctors that remained. My wife said there are many civilians still there. They have been getting news of friends and neighbors that have been killed.
I asked my wife why the civilians don't leave. Men between the age of 18-60 are not allowed to leave Ukraine. They don't have a place to go in Western Ukraine and don't have the money. Often the women elect to stay with them, even if they have children. They are also afraid of getting their house looted. Vacant houses are easy targets.
My mother/father-in-law have a house, sister-in-law have a house and I have an apartment full of my stuff. The apartment complex has already been bombed and both houses have had bombs land in the backyards. We expect that all three will be looted and destroyed. My mother-in-law cries every day.
At this point, I'm just hoping that my father-in-law will be okay, along with the rest of the people we know. Lisichansk will eventually be under Russian occupation and we will see if they will let him leave through Russia at that point.
I will keep you guys posted of any big news and I will report back when I get to Ukraine, which might be a couple of weeks.

Been looking forward to an update from you.
Sorry to hear about your FIL. I admire him for staying and continuing to do his job. But aren't the Russians putting the screws to Lisichansk pretty heavily lately?

It's the focus point of their invasion right now. It is the last remaining city in the area of Luhansk. Once they take Lisichansk they will occuply the whole luhansk area. Russian troops are moving in as we speak. It will be easier for Ukraine to defend then Seiverdonetsk so expect a big battle with a lot of destruction. Ukraine army will eventually fall but I expect them to return later in the year with Western weapons and the city will be under fire again.
I never envisioned it playing out like this. When I was in Lisichansk there was little military presence and the city is fairly pro-Russian. I just assumed if there was a war, that the Russian army would roll right past Lisichansk. Now it seems they will be bombing literally anything that is standing. Then they will tell the pro-Russian population living there, that they liberated them.

Wondered what happened to this guy.

OP seemingly kept posting about LSU baseball recruiting while in Switzerland and Ukraine in June/July and has continued posting on the rant about baseball until as recently as last week.

Anyway I can contact you off board. Would love to pick your brain on a couple things about an industry I feel you're well versed in.
